I once had a few Microtechs in S30V and I found them to be hard to sharpen. I usually prefer 154CM which I find easy to sharpen. What are your thoughts?

patience patience patience. what are you using to sharpen?

Funny you say that I think 154cm is harder to sharpen than S30V.

i dont have any problems sharpening anything :D i have a few knives that are 154cm and i sharpen them up easy. as for the s30v, i sharpen so many knives i cant remember if i have sharpened a knife made from that steel or not.

I use DMT and for polishing I use Green Rouge. I have problem to get hair whittling sharp only with CPM S100V and to less extent with CPM S90V, but no any problem with CPM S30V.

Thanks, Vassili.

S30V responds very well to DMT hones, in my experience. I find S30V much easier to take to a hair popping edge than D2, while the edge holding characteristics are very similar.

Just about everything I carry anymore is S30V with a couple of exceptions. I use a Sharpmaker and a strop block from Knives Plus. Don't seem to have any trouble getting S30V as sharp as I want it to be.

I use a Spyderco Double Stuff. At one point I could no longer put a shaving edge on my Microtech UMS. I eventually picked up a DMT diamond sharpener (coarse) and FINALLY I put the razor edge back on. I'd rather not have to use the DMT to put a razors edge back on a blade. I'm considering buying an Alias I auto and I'm only concerned about the sharpening part.

I find it sharpens up easily on diamond stones, especially once the edge has been reprofiled to a more acute angle.

DMT's, Shapton pros, & diamond loaded leather glued to flat pce of wood works well for S30V. This is Phil Wilson S30V cutting a rolled up page out of a phonebook:
