S30V Sharpening

I went on a trip to Florida to visit my brother these past two weeks. I used my Sebenza more than ever (He doesn't have any kitchen knives in his new place yet).

I had previously stated that I had retired my Micarta Sebenza from work duty. Well, I did not take anything with me to sharpen it and I used it constantly! All kinds of food and cardboard and packaging tape (My brother just moved in to a new place and I helped him out).

It is not that I never used my Sebenzas, it is that I always kept them sharp on a strop. I would never go weeks of constant use without it.

So, the point of my long winded story is that The S30V stayed SHARP! It was still shaving hair and slicing Newspaper at the end of the trip. I just touched up the edge on leather and it is SCARY again:thumbup: (Please excuse my sloppy sharpening job)

S30V Rocks IMHO:)

BTW, sorry for the CRAP PIC, I just used an OLD P&S real quickly.
 
S30v sebbies are a lot easier to sharpen than the old BG-42's in my opinion.

I couldn't get my old small regular razor sharp like my new ones but maybe that's
just me.
 
Yeah, very easy to sharpen. I was especially impressed with the edge holding ability:thumbup:
 
I agree S30V is the first steel I got to mirror edge and I miss it. Cant wait to get my hands on a new CRK. I miss my Small Reg!

Thanks. I didn't get a complete mirror finish. Just a very fine grit 3M belt followed by a leather belt with white compound. It is extremely sharp though and I love the result.

That edge is totally awesome, I would give anything to be able to do that :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That is the finest edge I have ever seen, You really know what your doing :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
 
Rickster - thanks and its easy, I just keep to the factory edge profile and take my time with light pressure.

Thanks for the kind words. I just use my Lansky crock sticks (medium and fine) leather and time! I want to get my hands on some D2 but that will only happen in 3 months. I have a order for a Bone Collector at a dealer. Now just have to wait and not spend the money, would hate to cancel the order for a 2nd time.
 
There was a lot of S30V bashing going on. I never had a problem with it. :thumbup:
