S30V vs BG42?

I'm not sure how often this debate has raged across the forums, but it's new to me, and it seems like an important contention:
My Seb is a large classic. It's fairly recently acquired, which means an S30V blade. I haven't been into knives long enough to have owned or even seen a BG42 model, so I'm curious as to what I might be missing.
The model I have has been beyond satisfactory; it never fails to assure me that I could perform surgery with it, if so inclined. :p So I guess what I'm wondering is, what precisely is the difference between the two steels, as far as the Sebenza is concerned? I'm aware of the technical distinctions, production, addatives and hardness and so forth, so I'm really more interested in the functional distinctions; why do some folk like S30V, why some BG42, and is there anyone out there with who has experience with both steels?
Thanks for any input; :) and I apologize if this issue has already been contested to death.

ive got one of each, and havent noticed any significant difference in edge retention, toughness, ease of sharpening, ability to take an edge, or appearance.

I think theres no significant difference. Many people claim that BG42 is sharper, but there could be two reasons behind this:

1. its a thing of mind, where you think its better, and your optimisticness makes it seem better.

2. want the value of BG42's to rise.

optimism.

;)

hahahaa. yes Morimotom! optimism. i knew that word ;) was just testing if you knew it! :D

there is a difference in the hardness. I think it's a 3 point difference, on paper at least.

spyken, i think crk made s30v 58-59 because it is stronger than bg42. so 58-59 basically = 61 BG42. except that 58-59 is easier to sharpen.

thats my take of it.
