I am wondering if there is much difference between S30V and S35VN from a collector / value point of view. Obviously the S30V CRKs are going to be older. Any thoughts?

There is a lot of information by surfing the interwebs on the material characteristics of these and I am not trying to resurrect that conversation... ;)

Anything no longer available will always have more value. S35VN will likely be replaced at some point too, at which point it may become equally sought after. The length of time CRK used the steel might also be a factor as it contributes to rarity.

My guess would be that with each change in steel a greater number of knives will be made than the previous steel. CRK's just get more popular. With that said the S30V will be rarer than the S35VN. BG-42 rarer than S30V. ATS-34 rarer than BG-42.
Another factor is the lack of Idaho Made stamp(not trying to start the argument all over-the lack of is popular with some though)

The number made of each steel will have some bearing, but once a steel is discontinued , sooner or later the price will rise, if present trends continue. I wonder if the lack of a Blade award will effect demand,,, I know it won't at this forum… I have used both 30 and 35 pretty extensively and can tell little difference, I just may not be astute enough, but both cut and sharpen. Ladder damascus is still my favorite….

The blade steel is important, but for me personally the rest of the knife is more important since all of the steels CRK has ever used preform just fine for my daily uses. For example, I collect the annual knives, which were never made in s35. So for me, I have far more knives in s30 (and bg42) than s35.

Doesn't matter to me.
I think the overall condition of the knife matters more.
