S30V and SGPS (of fallkniven) are somewhat simular in composition.
How do they compare in every day use?

The core of 3G fallknives have SGPS at 62 RC, most spydercos in S30V are at 58/59 RC?
Does anyone laminate S30V with a higher RC or does it not make much sense?
Maybe S30V at 62 RC has a bigger tendency to chip than SGPS?
The U2 with SGPS core has very good feedback.

Your comments please :)

Steel analysis:

SGPS C - 1.40 Si - 0.50 Mn - 0.40 P - 0.030 Cr - 15.00 Mo - 2.80 S - 0.030 V - 2.00

S30V C - 1.45 Mn - 0.40 Cr - 14.00 Mo - 2.0 S - 0.40 V - 4.00

S30V is a good steel for a stainless environment and is a very good steel. I have several knives made with S30V but if the same knives were ever offered with the SGPS/G3 combo. then I would absolutly go with the SGPS. I am baseing my opinions on haveing knives of both types of steel and I far preferr the SGPS blades for long lasting sharpness. I can't even remember how many cardboard boxes I have cut up with my TK6 with 3G and it still is as sharp as when I got it. I just give it a qucik buff once on each side and thats it(really did not need the buff but I do that to most of my knives anyway).

It would be difficult to get S30V to that hardness as it would require oil/cold. Production S30V blades have been hardness tested and they are uniformly softer than promoted in the 55-59 HRC range. The lower amount of vanadium in SPGS at the same carbon content would allow a higher hardness more readily.

That would be expected due to the higher amount of carbide. SGPS would be expected to have a higher edge stability. I have used SGPS and S30V extensively and both are very much high wear steels. The cutting lifetime of SPGS I have used was much ahead of S30V however that was due to the enhanced geometry on the SPGS blade. I will be rerunning that comparison with more similar geometries in the future.
