I recently got a new PM2. I am wondering about Spydies S30 vs. BM's S30. Who runs theirs harder? Also, I have always polished mine, but hear that S30V really shines when toothy. I am also a big fan of toothy edges as well. Let's hear some opinions.

Spyderco does a better job than BM in my opinion. As for edge finish I have found a fine diamond or 1k waterstone yields a nice edge on S30V.

I've got both. I was thinking about my 1K Shapton, maybe with a micro on the Brown rods of the SM.

I also like a somewhat toothy edge for my everyday knives. They have to cut a variety of materials, some natural and some man-made. My most frequent carries for this kind of work are a Para in S30V, a 566 in Elmax, or a mini-CQC15 in 154CM. All three of them work better and quicker for my cutting with edges that are somewhat toothy.

So I finish them that way with the fine rods from my Sharpmaker and a balsa wood strop with .5 micron diamond spray coating. The result from the edges doesn't always test well as far as push cutting thin paper, but they slide through tough zip ties and other slick materials like they weren't even there. And I can't ever remember having to push cut thin paper as a real world task, anyway.

LOL, yeah, there is a difference in one of my "show off" blades, and a blade that I use to cut a ton of stuff with. There is also a very different performance in their cutting ability as well, in real life.
