I have a Sebenza 21 from 2015 and a Nyala from 2011, both have the hardness noted on the birthday cards: 58-59. On my Small 21 from 2018 the card reads 59-60. I have an Inkosi and a large 21 from 2019 and the cards on those do not show the hardness. No hardness indicated on the card for my 2020 Nyala either.

Are the newer knives without the hardness indicated run at 59-60 and is that an improvement? Are knives that were treated both ways more desirable in the higher hardness versions?

I would assume the new knives have the higher hardness. I have several example of each heat treat levels and in my (moderate at best) use I don’t see a difference.

My small sebenza is from 2012 . I believe it's on early lower heat treat . And is a great knife. .
After I learned to sharpen it all was good . There is one thing though no one did a better job on the heat treatment than reeve .
