S35VN hinderer halftrack

I have a Hinderer halftrack in s35vn and it won't cut hot butter. I was going to sharpen it last night and discovered that the edge angle from the factory is close to 25dps. Any harm in taking this beast down lower to say 18-20 dps or and suggestions to get a 25dps edge sharp enough to shave and cut well? I use a kme diamond stone setup and normally can handle about any edge but this one is proving to be tricky to say the least.

Thin it out - there isn't a knife steel out there that cannot hold at 15 °/side, 18 is no problem.

I took mine down to 18 degrees and I really liked the results.
