S35vn Para

If its a sprint they certainly made a lot of them. Theyve been around for at least a year now and are widely still available. And no not a dealer exclusive, Many sites have them.

People seem to be looking for high wear resistance and exotic steels that have huge performance gain in small areas.

I feel like S35vn got a bad rap

Once everyone found out that the wear resistance is slightly reduced compared to S30v to make a more balanced steel, people seemed less interested.

This is unfortunate, s35vn might arguably be the best overall knife steel made due to possessing highest amount of all the attributes that make knife steel great without any deficits.
It has good
Wear resistance, toughness, corrison resistance, ease of sharpening, cost, all relative to each other

Nothing is great, but the balance being so high in all area is what sets this steel apart.

It also probably didn't help that CRK ran the steel soft when it first came out at 58-59 hrc.

Thanks for all the info.
I had a digi camo PM2 before this and I thought the blades were all the same on the PM2.
I ordered the earth brown one because I liked the color. :)

I have this model. It's a great knife. I agree with DBH's sentiments on S35VN. It's an excellent all around blade steel.

I really like the S35VN steel. It might just be in my head, but I liked it a lot more than S30V. I've got several little micro chips in S30V cutting through the heavy cardboard, but I haven't seen that in S35VN. Results may vary :D

I like it, too. Easy to sharpen, and it holds up well for me. I do like the exotics, too. Can't help myself!

was this a limited sprint run?
It is listed as a distributor exclusive - available at multiple dealers. Given the recent influx, after not seeing them around for a while, I'm guessing that there was another run?

I couldn't agree more. I prefer steels like this to some of the more carbide rich "super steels". I tend to touch my knives up every couple of days and keep them at a very high level of sharpness so a steel that will maintain lower level sharpness longer at the expense of ease of sharpening doesn't make much sense for me. Some folks use their knives for months without sharpening then pull out the edge pro. A steel like s110v makes a lot more sense under those circumstances. Chocolate and vanilla. I prefer vanilla but I'm glad they make both flavors.

I think that what makes this knife so unique is that it is a distributor exclusive and not the more common dealer exclusive. I can only speculate as to what the differences may be. It is apparent that one main difference is that they are available through many dealers instead of just one. A distributor may be able to order a lot more and may be able to keep reordering as much as they want. Who knows?

So there are sprints, dealer exclusives and distributor exclusives. I guess there are also knives which are considered limited production too. Then there are forum knives. Would those be considered sprints or exclusives?

I reckon the forum knives would fall most closely to the sprint category since they are a limited run and they won't make any more. I think the exclusives have a bit less collector value since at any given moment the supply could increase.

Yeah, I had a Military in S30V that kept chipping from VERY light use, basically light office carry. I don't know if the heat-treat was off or what, but I really didn't expect such brittleness from a supposedly wonderful steel. It's probably an overreaction, but I haven't trusted S30V since.

I use s30v fairly hard and it's performed admirably. I would definitely not call that normal behavior for the steel. It's a great steel option....i wouldn't right it off if I were you.
