S35VN Tenacious

Price seems a little high considering where it is made. I might get my wallet out for a Resillience like this though!
True. If not US-made, Taiwan or Seki City Japan would’ve been killer.

I dunno man, I really dig the Resilience. The “poor man’s Military” has some charm to it.

Though S35vn is so common it’s often scoffed at, it is a phenomenal stainless. I greatly prefer it over M390, as I’ve found the latter to be very chippy whereas S35vn is not. Just a great all around user steel.

Yes i have no problem with Taiwan or Japan.
As USA alternatives. But there are a few i almost just have to make exception. A resilience in S35VN would be great.
I have a military and you are correct the poor mans military lol. That you can carry tip up?

Yeah, first thing I did to my Resilience. Tip up carry.

If only it was not made in China. No problem with Taiwan. Just old and set in my ways I suppose.

As an asian (not chinese) who has been to china and seen with my own eyes child labor and kids no taller than my knees actually chain smoking as if they were old jaded adults. and seen the shameless ways china allows intellectual property to be stolen with impunity. i feel your concerns about chinese produced goods are not without validity, and I initially felt the same way about the tenacious line of knives as you do. but at a certain point if you really feel that way i think you need to start calling out spyderco and even sal for producing knives in china.

OR

have some faith in spyderco as a company and sal as a person and trust that they, to the best of their abilities, procured "non chinesey" chinese manufacturers.

sorry in advance if anyone was offended by "non chinesey" but... yaknow

Hi 20mm and all involved,

The situation, as you might expect, is more complicated than it might appear. We try to avoid Politics on our forums. As I've always said, the bottom line is trust, and and it's not just who to trust but how much? We've been working with the same makers, some for 20 years. They have been transparent and have worked hard for them and for us. We've been to their factories, met their families. Some provide lodging for their employees. Some we found not trustworthy and we stopped supporting them. We have attorney's in Beijing that hunt counterfeiters.

Is it the Chinese Government? Are all of the Chinese people in agreement with the Government? It's not smart to eat your customer.

I have been saying for decades that we must build in America. That is more evident now. It's our customers that have been asking for models to compete with the Chinese made knives. Hard to do with a 6/1 Yuan without building in China. We work closely with our makers in Japan, Taiwan and Italy as well as growing our US factory. This COVID thing will/should create a change, but only time will tell, and it takes time to change. We watch closely in the meantime.

Hey thanks Sal for your words. Hopefully the message came across that I for one have no issues with your chinese manufactured knives, and i base my comfort with them wholly on you and your company. and apologies if that did not come through in my original post.

Sal, I see nothing wrong with using China manufacturing for the budget line. For people who think that nobody can make quality things except here in America are foolish. Examples, Russia has a hypersonic missile while we do not. China has built the fastest Quantum computer to date. China produces virtually all tech and the chances are the computer, tablet or smartphone you’re viewing this thread on was made there. You can’t buy a single major car brand that’s entirely built with parts made in the USA either. I applaud Sal, Eric and Spyderco for using China manufacturing and verifying that they use upstanding companies to make their budget knife lines. We aren’t the only country in the world that buy Spyderco knives so keep that in mind. It’s a world market out there and nothing is going to change that. I’m impatiently waiting the Tenacious in S35VN and hope they broaden the budget line with more steels.

China is guilty of stealing intellectual property also.

According to some reports, Chinese IP theft has cost the United States $225 billion to $600 billion a year.

That statement is ridiculous. China isn’t stealing IP property, private companies and manufacturers are. China does have laws against counterfeiting but just like here in America, companies weigh the risk of fines and profit margins to determine if the risk of legal action is worth it. If you’re not buying a product from an authorized dealer, you are running the risk of buying a counterfeit.
