Yes, I know s35vn + titanium handles are too cliche now, but they have earned their popularity.

I've resisted the temptation until now... and from the most unlikely of places, (which is not a BF supporter)
I normally complain their 'drops' (sales) are junk, and usually for production knives they are. They call this one a 'dao'.
I love wharncliff but I might have complained about the large finger choil, but it seems a benefit here.

what do you think of it from a design perspective? the fact it's under a buck fifty makes it a good value I think

I'm all for titanium handles. I love titanium
There are other alloys I prefer for the blade.
. . . what do you think of it from a design perspective?
I'll ask you that after you cut up a block of cheese or some goopy trash . . . or both . . . yummmm . . . with that flavor savor slot in the blade. :D

I know! I am not a fan of the big slot hole... if I was designing this blade, I'd only make a 'hi' type of indentation on both sides, like this

What's the "hi" type of indentation for ? ? ?
To save weight ?
I guess you are talking to the wrong knife nerd.
I take knives like that and grind them from 5mm thick to 2.2mm or so.
That saves some weight !
Makes 'em cut stuff way better to !

lol pennies to dollars, common colloquialism

and wowbanger, the hi would act as a nail nick type of function on this, since its a folder, not for weight reduction

it still seems overly large of an opening - but they do have a certain look about them... here are a bunch opened & with the fancy scales... I think I prefer plain in this case

I think I agree, I like the plain the best. After that, I think third from the left.

I didnt like the ffkw + MD collabs. There are better knives overall for that same money. They missed the mark imho. Lots of threads and posts already about this collaboration. Some like and some don't. I fell for the hype and won't again. I'm not saying they are bad... Just that there is much better for the cost.

I kinda like the design but feel that the blade is too thick for the size to me.

Feel free to link pics and info about better knives for the same money? I've kept the title generic on purpose :)

This knife is essentially the same as the Ferrum Forge designed Massdrop “Buc” manufactured by We Knives. The blade looks almost identical with the exception of the more conventional pointy tip instead of the cleaver like hump. The handle looks the same too only it’s missing the lanyard hole.

The Buc is an AWESOME slicer with an outstanding action and a smooth fall-shut closing. I reprofiled mine to 14.5° each side and the bevel is narrow and scary sharp. Feels great in hand especially the choil. We does a great job with S35VN.

I would buy this knife in a heartbeat, but I really don’t need another one so close to the Buc in design and specifications. Like I said, it’s the same knife minus the hump plus a different swedge grind.

Here’s the recent thread on the Massdrop Buc for comparison.

I've got the Buc, and it's incredible, I think the Dao looks like a great counterpart to it.

Mo2 Mo2 Which one did you try? Can you suggest one or two knives of comparable quality and price?
