If there's any chance of getting CRK to do a S110V or CPM M-4 sprint run, I would take that in a heartbeat. For the time being, however, the use of S35VN is already in the books.
Does anyone have any more recent information since the "mystery steel" introduction?

There isn't going to be any sprint runs coming from CRK but the S35VN is in the tubes and should come through on the folders eventually.

I hope it doesn't come through for a while. I tried putting off my umnumzaan purchase until they introduced the new steel, but I just couldn't wait. now my wallet needs a few more months (at least) to cool off before I can snag another.

I don't know about the Umn but a couple weeks ago I was told by Heather that there are no plans to change the steel in the Sebs.

I dont see a change coming soon either. I believe CRK is quite happy with S30V, they have alot invested in it as Chris helped develop it. I am quite happy with S30V. I would rather see new knife models come out than another blade steel !!!

spyderco has announced that they will be offering their mule team knife in S35VN starting next week, check the sticky in the spyderco forum

I just read that now. Not looking good.
Sounds like Crucible may not produce the steel after all (business reasons, not technical).
It does open the door for other steel types, unfortunately CRK seems to be avoiding ultra high wear resistance steel.

And now the new Nyala is coming out in S35vn. You'd think if all the new blades are coming out in the new steel, they'd update the "old" ones.

Maybe; once they've exhausted the bulk of S30V blanks on hand, and any outstanding S30V purchase commitments.

Not really. Who would spend money on the older models in s30v? Not many people. This would effectively screw retailers that carry large stock and thus CR's best sellers.

My bet is that when they update their current line (perhaps sebenza 25? hehe) they will do the new model in the new steel. At this point the old model may become desirable as it is discontinued and wouldnt screw companies that stocked lots of them. Just makes sense from a business perspective.

This post from another forum and thread here:

Crucible Industries is still going to make CPM S35-VN. We have over 15,000 pounds on order and some has already arrived. We will have sheet for sale by the first week in February from our warehouse. We also plan to ship material to distributers willing to buy it so they can sell it as well.

Guess what NSM stands for? :D

Don't know if anyone cares but I just got a new Umnumzaan yesterday with CPM-S35VN. Birthdate is 2/23/11 and I bought it from knifeart. I'm loving this knife btw! Hope this helps someone...
