i was on spydercos website checking out what they have to offer in 2011 and saw that the Native 5 is coming in this steel...anybody know anything about it?

Here is one of my Christmas presents that has an S35VN blade, my CRK 'Nyala':

Not much use since Christmas Day, but it looks promising. Still a razor, too. Like my Umnumzaan's S30V, the data sheet rates it as Rc 58-59. I honestly can't tell the difference! Bragging rights?

Duno about the specific blades, but if you'er asking about the steel then, CPM S35VN steel sort of evolution of the S30. I haven't used it yet, and there are not too many knives out there either. What I understand from several reports it has increased toughness and slightly less wear resistance compared to S30V.
Although, given the fact that it took several years until S30V HT was perfected, may be things will improve for S35VN as well. I don't mean it's bad, but there's always a room for improvement.

Bark River has come out with two knives in this steel. I got both of them, but they have not seen much use.
Do a search, "knife forums s35vn tusk". There is a 4 page discussion on two knives, the custom highland and a custom tusk. One guy has processed 20 deer and a boar with his highland. The edge had a slight roll, he used 1500 grit sandpaper and a strop to put it back to hair shaving sharp.
For a stainless, it is very tough, nobody is saying that it's chipping. Bark River has set the hardness at 61-62, if I remember correctly. That's crucible's suggested hardness, and makes these two knives the hardest BRK has made to date.

It's derivation as I understand it is to get something that can be harder than S30V without brittleness. Also to get a steel easier for makers who want to polish it which is difficult to do with S30V.
