First off, no pics because my initial reaction was a mad freak out at what I had allowed to happen.

I daily carry a small plain Sebenza as my nice carry that does NOT get handed out if someone needs a knife. As in someone I know and trust and man is that a short list. It's carried in a leather pocket slip. Of course I understand that it's stain-less and not stain-proof but I've never had any of the stainless powder metal type blades (S30V, S35VN, S45VN, and more) ever rust from normal daily carry. They have always seemed pretty bullet proof.

So I go to show someone what a sharp knife slicing through paper is like since he had not seen such a thing. And he didn't yesterday either... Ragged rip tearing that immediately made my eyes go wide. And then I saw the small freckles on the steel. The whole length of edge that used to have a 17 degrees per side very nice slicey edge was dull.

Maybe every couple of weeks or so I will be wiping everything down including the stainless now.

Where do you live?

My nephew has very corrosive sweat, and can rust most stainless steels just by carrying the knife.

Georgia. No other stainless pocket knife has done this. And I nearly daily carry my K390 Delica which isn't stainless at all. I'm assuming carrying it in leather is the culprit.

Sorry to hear that. I bet it was the leather sheath. I am kind of OCD about wiping down the blades to avoid rust. You should be able to get it cleaned up. You could always get a Magnacut blade for it.

It can happen. I've had stainless 1911's get rust under the grips before, surprisingly quickly. I'd agree that leather can "hold" moisture, some leather more than others. Perhaps an email to CRK asking about it might provide some guidance?

The type of leather (how it's tanned) can make a big difference. Chromium tanned leather can hold chemicals that promote rust much more so than vegtable tanned leather.

S45vn definitely rusts easier than s30v in my experience (across all brands), and mine matches yours that it tends to get those smaller spots. They do polish away easy enough. Not my favorite steel, but still better than s35 anyway.

If it is only the edge I think you have contamination from on your stones that got transferred.

Has happened to me when grinding a carbon blade and then M390. M390 started to rust.

So check your stones maybe and give them a good clean.

Diamonds get PM steels and the rest gets the old Lansky stones which I guess are aluminum oxide or whatever. And I do clean the diamond plates with windex and iso after each use.
