I know that my SRKW HR's and RMD are through hardened. I was just watching this guy strip a Scrap Yard Scrapper 5 on a YouTube video and the he said the S5 has a hamon/is zone hardened:

It does not look like there is a hamon in the video. I also did not see one on the norcalblacktail S5 satin pics.

I have 2 S5's and I would like to strip one if there is a hamon to be found. If not, I'll leave it alone.

Does anyone know for sure if the regular SR101 Scrapper 5 is zone or through hardened?

99% sure that they are through hardened. I didn't see a hamon when I stripped mine. Besides, s5 is too small to justify differential treatment(IMO).

This statement makes sense... But I could understand a differential heat treat on a small blade. Lots of small blades are well suited for batonning and prying, two activities that require a tough blade.

Thanks Jac The Slayer. I didn't think they were. The guy on the video said it and I had to put it out there.

I do have to agree with GregS though. The S5 blade is SR101 .185” thick and 5.125” long. That is pretty close a zone hardened knife I hope to someday own:

SRKW Desert Jack - SR-101 blade = .175” thick; 6.0” long.

Thanks guys!
