I was looking over the handfull of S702 military jacks that I've accumulated despite me JUST collecting rigging knives  I've noticed that the stamping of the can opener blade appears, or not.

But, now I see that sometimes the Delrin handles were affixed with rivets and sometimes there were just the pivot and backspring pins. ??

The S702 below has the two extra (?) handle rivets

...and this one just has the pins showing.

I'm wondering what would determine whether or not to alter assembly.

I guess at one time folks had a hard time figuring out what to do with the curved, not sharp and short blade so they put "can opener" on it. Also one of the blades on the famous "Demo Knife".

The knife with the extra pins has pinned on covers. Most likely the knife that does not have pins showing has stud covers. There are holes in the linings and studs molded onto the handles. This metod attaches the handles to the knife for a cleaner look. Camillus started using stud construction around 1970.
The can-opener in the model #S-702 knife (#425 pattern) is the same one that is used in the MIL-K knife (#5693 pattern).
