Are the saber ground 16's still around in retail locations, or has that stock all disappeared? I have seen pictures in some current auctions on the big auction site with saber grinds, but haven't found the sellers to know what I am asking about when I try to verify the grind. I wanted to find one of them to complete my tweener collection.

Not likely. That First Production Run at SMKW is gone. The real challenge has been the un-engraved ones though. The odd bird has shown up on occasion.

I'd settle for a SMKW engraved/signature one but can't find anymore for sale.

Picked one up a couple weeks ago on another forum, unmolested(no additional engraving), like new. Really like the feel of the saber grind, but the FFG will probably see the most use.

Cheers

The flat ground is a better cutter, but the saber ground looks damn sexy.

Aesthetically, I prefer the saber grind but, the full flat has a lot more slice........ The saber looks beefier and theoretically is, I suppose, a trifle stronger but, in my favorite stress test the FFG does just fine........ That test is to drive the point into the end grain of a white oak 4x4 until it just won't pop out and flex it until it either fails or approaches approx 45 degrees...... The full flat did just fine ......... Slice equals cut and cut is what a knife is supposed to do and, in a knife this size, designed for all around camp chores, from skinning, food prep, bush craft, whittling and light batonning the FFG is, IMHO by far the better deal .......

The Wizard has Spoken. :D FFG for the win.

Yeah, Ethan, we know, the ffg is a better performer; it's just that we like eye candy :D

This is why I have both :D The FFG is better at what it's for, the SG is sexier.

With the assurance from the wizard himself, that save us the trouble to do those test ourselves.

I was kinda hoping for a saber 16 too but am really happy with my FFG now while in search for the saber in the 17 instead!!
