Saber to full flat: Whats your opinion? Future of Becker knives?

Hey kids, With the new Ka-Bar shorts (Tweeners) being made into FFG it got me thinking: Would you still like Beckers in Full flat grind models? Not to bad mouth Beckers or Ka-Bar but now that the Tweeners are FFG its kinda putting me off them. So, heres the question: WOULD YOU LIKE BECKER THE WAY THEY ARE NOW WITH THEIR SABER/HIGH FLAT GRINDS OR WOULD YOU PREFER THEM WITH FULL FLAT GRINDS?

PS: I know there is some technical stuff about grinds and blade geometry and if you understand that it can go into the equation and that ther're saber grind in order for them to be stamped.

What do you think?

okay, so only one tweener is changing, neh? and it WOULD have been that way, had laser engraving been there at the start, but since roll engraving needs a flat spot, well, a little tweak. unfortunately, roll stamping has its own issues. so it's gone away.

as Ethan has said, he envisioned the 16 to be like a bigger, better, badder Necker. both neckers are FFG, neh?

FFG is the way the 16 was intended to be and will be. Ethan has spoken :) it's the knife he's wanted for 30 years as has been quote.

the 15 and the 16 are going to be "left alone", other than the engraving.

and honestly, it's a good change. what's not to like?

as far as i know, NONE of the other knives are going to change.

take your protein pills, clamp down on the relaxation nozzle, and enjoy...

Fixed it for you.

I agree with bladite, it's fact that only the 16 will be FFG, and I think Mr. Becker has it right, he wants the perfect knife and he made it, and made me very happy, to bad I was impatient and bought a FPR Saber ground one..... I'll get a normal 16 later on, but for now, I'll look at options for regrinding into FFG (preserving the signature of course!) and finish stripping.

Dood! There's no way! The First Production Run text looks to run into the bevel of the saber grind and Uncle E's sig looks to be so close to the saber line also that you'd have to be a laser surgeon to alter ir without it messing up the text.

I like full flats better but don't take that to mean I dislike Saber/flats. They're both good . It doesn't have to be a Black or White one dimensional deal.

Thought all the tweeners were becoming FFG. I dunno, I guess its just bothering me about the sudden change (I've known for a while but I still like the look of the saber.) Anyway, thanks for the info guys.

Kids? Kinda already a thread started on this: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/934576-New-Marking-Laser-BK2-With-Full-Flat-Grind

So it does exist! Reason I started this was because of that thread or something simmilar. Tried looking for it and eventually just figured it was a dream or my imagination so started this crap. Thanks man.

It was still on page 1. Why would you start one, if you knew one existed? Makes no sense, but, it's all good. No biggie.

I like the look of the Saber Grind, and imagine it would be a better splitter for using with a baton to split camp wood. Also possibly better for chopping for the better weight and forward mass.
I suppose a flat grind will slice paper and things better.

So I guess it depends on the intended use on the knife.

Shane, you a fan of Eminem? And yes, looks have something to do with it. Especially if your a semi-perfectionist like me.

I like full height grinds. But, on the 7 and 9, it just would not be right.

I would like a FHG 2, and the BK-5 is already FFG, so I wouldn't change that. good topic though.

Saber flat or full flat?? I think I would prefer saber flat for most uses but if I were carrying a 7 or 9 for heavy work I'd want an ffg for light camp/kitchen work.
Either way I would prolly end up convexing cuz that's what I do with most of mine.

I'm confused (hell, its late)...you'd go full height convex on your beckers or just the V edge?

I think I'm gonna eat up my electronic words and bite the bullet on the signed 16. If there's a tweener with good collecting potential it's this one. I'm ashamed to say that this is gonna be a safe queen. I know in due course I will get a regular 16 to play with.

I like the saber grinds to be honest. I just picked up a MK1 to compare with the upcoming BK17 passaround, and I have the ZK War Sword which is also FFG, and I think for wood processing knives, I will stick with saber. I have yet to be in a situation when I'm cutting something with my BK9 and think "man, I wish that this thing was FFG so I could slice this media better". I guess I don't often cut through things thick enough to need the slimmer profile of the FFG.

I also find FFG blades don't baton as well as my Saber ground blades, and I expect my large blades to be able to do this, so I'll take the saber every time, except on small blades.

Who's to say you have to keep it in the safe. You could just keep it out and hold it, maybe light duty kitchen use, wouldn't hurt it any. If I use one of mine the signature must go, "first production run", I can live with that, though it is obnoxious.
