Saber vs ffg

Hello everyone, just bought a delica in saber grind apparently. I wanted ffg but now I'm wondering if they make them there must be a place for them. Anybody prefer saber? Anyone know the goods and bads of the saber vs ffg? Thank you

Saber gives you a stronger blade. Full flat grind makes for a better slicer. But a lot depends on the rest of the blade geometry. A thin-bladed, high saber grind can out slice a thick FFG, especially if the blade is not very wide.

The Delica is a great slicer. You should be good.

Thx, I definitely prefer ffg but I can totally understand why the saber is more durable. Regardless of the grind, what rough and tough little knife

I got my Delica 4 a few years before Spyderco came out with the ffg version, and never had cause to upgrade. Everybody says the current grind is better, but I like mine well enough to have not bothered to change it out. I guess it all depends on what you normally cut. The sg has enough fans for Spyderco to keep it in their catalogue, so I guess there are plenty of conservatives like me still out there.

On the Delica, the saber-ground version I really like is fully serrated. That one is excellent. In plain edge, I much prefer the FFG version.

A full flat grind can be a good slicer, and is good for a blade that may be a bit thicker.

A sabre grind is generally a bit stronger and may not slice as well at the same blade thickness, however for fixed blades a 1/16 or 3/32 thick blade with a mid height Sabre grind is awesome. I love this because it's perfect for general utility and will actually slice very well.

Your Sabre ground delica probably won't slice as well, but you probably won't see any problems with this unless you had a full flat ground example to compare it to.

Is it possible that the saber grind won't slice as well as the FFG? Sure. But the Delica got a reputation for being a great slicer long before the FFG ever came out...

I wouldn't invest a lot of thought or concern over whether your knife will slice well.

Honestly, The Glessers really know what they are doing. A large part of Spyderco's success was based on the Delica and its big brother the Endura. If they didn't work well, it would be well known by now.

Just get one of each. I like the ffg delica but had a saber. I like the saber enduras although I do have a ffg endura. The ffg are excellent slicers and the sabers are excellent work horses.

While the descriptions of the differences as between saber grind versus FFG are noted well, if the knife is made by Spyderco ... it's going to cut. Now before you discount my comment as a cheerleader's cheer, I too have had a few Enduras long before FFG ones came out and they all cur really well and held up - just wish they wouldn't get lost or stolen, but I digress.

I have knives in FFG and also saber and high saber grinds, other than for slicing cheese, pepperoni or apples very thinly, I like the saber grinds.
