I just learned about sabrage (it's a way to open a champagne bottle with a sword or knife; look it up), and now I want to see sabrage performed with some INFI. Somebody go grab an AK47 and a bottle of champagne, and video camera, and show us some sabrage. :D

.

I think Jerry tried something like that with Skunk's SHBA on a beer bottle at Blade this year. It didn't work too well, Jerry's needs to work on the technique some more!

:D

I heard that story. Too funny.

You have to admit though, he did get the bottle open.

I think either **** or ********* tried it at Blade a couple years ago.

They're still pickin glass out of the carpet....

If you hit that bottle instead of the cork, you better learn how to sharpen!! :O

thats for sure, i'm still trying to grind the dent out of my once prestine $1000 SHba :thumbdn:

I am pretty sure that whatever you decide to hit the bottle with isn't supposed to have an edge!

1) You're supposed to hit the bottle, not the cork; you break off the end of the bottle.

2) You're supposed to use the back of the sword, not the edge.

So, doesn't anyone want to make a video of sabrage with an AK47 or MOAB or SHBM, or such?

It looks like it wastes a bit of the bubbly though, I might try in on some cheap stuff.

My understanding is that it does, indeed, waste some. This is apparently necessary, as the outward flow from the broken off neck prevents any glass splinters from getting into the remainder in the bottle from which people drink. Nonetheless, from what I read, a skilled sommelier with a well chilled bottle of champagne can keep the loss to a minimum.

As for using cheap stuff because there's some loss: That's up to you, but I say that if you're going to be extravagant, then be extravagant.

I'm on a low budget and only buy generic champagne in cans. They don't even have pull tabs, let alone corks.

Stay sharp,

That's pretty cool. From watching several clips on YouTube, it looks like there is a preferred technique- you don't "chop" the neck of the bottle, so much as cause a crack at the joint where the cork basket wire wraps around. The pressure of the gas in the bottle blows the top off.

Next time I have to open a bottle of champagne, I'm gonna try that. A battle mistress would be a good choice, but I'm kinda thinking it would be cool to try with a folder (the HANDLE of a folder). Take that, Frenchies! I can do with a slipjoint what you need a SABRE for!

Me too, Moon. But I'm buying TWO bottles of cham-pag-nah. Just to be safe. LOL

BTW - spine of a Skinny ASH should be perfect. I think a 1/4" spine would be too much and glass it too hard to bother using a edge.
