For a brief period, Kabar was owned by Cole National, the key people. Sabre had been owned by them for many years prior, which is why you would see Sabres near the key machine in some stores. If Sabre still exists, it is no longer commonly owned.
Just looked, it was 30 years from 66 to 96. As the years passed, Kabar seemed to lose its way a bit, but has returned. The 80s and 90s were hard on US knifemakers.
