Sack-Ups question, UnknownVT perhaps??

I know that UnknownVT uses these little Sack-Ups pouches but if anyone else has them, can you provide the actual measurements? A quick google search revealed them sized as Small, Medium & Large or designed for 3", 4" and 5" folders. I'm wondering if the sizes listed are accurate. For instance, does the 4" pouch measure 4" or is it designed to fit a 4" folder with some extra room? I'm trying to figure out which size to order. Hope this makes sense and thanks for any help.

Because they are a flexible cotton pouch, each one is not PERFECTLY equal to the next one. In general.....
The 4" is about 4 1/8".....the 5" is about 5 1/8".....and the little one has a 3" pouch, with an additional 2" extension/flap that could be folded and tucked, with some effort, if you desire.

Hope that helps a bit.

Bill,

That helps A LOT, not just a bit!! Thanks much for the info. I think I'll pick up a few. Given that 6 packs run about $7-$8, you really can't go wrong. I want something for in drawer storage and the typical zippered leather-ish fleece lined pouches that come with most custom knives are a bit bulky for my wooden tool chest. They fit in the drawers, but it's snug. I figure the sack-ups are perfect for my needs and even for in-pocket storage. Thanks again for the dimensions.
Best,

I bought a set of the larger ones, but they're a little shy of 5" -- my 4.75" lg Sebenza just fits inside. You can stretch them a tiny bit lengthwise, but not much; they stretch a little more laterally.

Though the batch I got varied slightly from sack to sack, they're around 4.75" long x 1.75" wide. (Just about right for my new Obenauf Mini Model 2 to nestle in at night.)

The fact that Arcanum got some "shorties" :D , just goes to show they are not perfectly sized, that's for sure!

They also make some knife rolls for storage/travel. The two I have are nice, but of course you can't put them in your pocket.

Anyway, good luck with your choice.

The Sack-Ups I use are the 4" ones (model 805) - they just fit a standard Victorinox SAK (3.5", 91mm) up to about 3-4 layers/backsprings wide.

The ribbed material "stretches" somewhat width-wise - so the wider SAKs are a stretch fit - even my EDC Scientist with 2 layers (one is wider than average) is a bit of a stretch fit - but that's actually nice, since the fit then is snug and much less chance of dirt and other stray objects getting in there with the knife.

I have an unused one in front of me - the approx measurements are: pouch length 3 7/8"/100mm; width (in-seam to seam) 1 7/16"/35mm.

left to right: unused 4" (#805) Sack-Ups; containing my EDC Victorinox Scientist (2 layers) (and due for a wash); containing Victorinox Yeoman (3 layers).

EDC Sack-Ups has been washed a few times - and has shrunk - but still "fits" the SAK albeit more snugly and a bit shorter. The Yeoman's show how well this fits a standard Vic SAK at 3 layers (one wider than average).

As mentioned elsewhere before the flaps never seem to want to stay closed - so don't expect it to be a cover - it works much better as a locator/extractor from one's pocket.

After looking at Vincent's pictures, I went to look at my 4" model #805s which are still in the packaging.........They DO NOT have the flaps like the ones in Vincent's pictures.

If I recall, I got all of mine, plus the rolls, from Smoky Mountain in a package deal. So...... maybe there are different versions of the same model #s? Or maybe my flaps fell off?
:) Nah, just kidding. But that might explain the size variations.

But that sure makes something simple seem more difficult. Patrickb, I guess you better ask which ones they are when you order. Flaps......or flapless!

Thanks all for the great info. I ordered a variety pack containing 2 of each size, 3", 4" and 5". Then I ordered a six pack of the 4", #508 and a six pack of the 5", #806. Seems like an awful lot of pouches, but at $8 for each six pack, it's worth experimenting. And, I'll now be able to safely store all my knives in pouches, from productions to customs.

Thanks again Vincent, Bill & Arcanum. Your help is much appreciated.

Mine are pretty old (many years) - yours may well be newer models.

The flap never made much sense to me, since they never seem to want to stay closed -
I only found that they acted better as a locator/extractor.

I did a froogle search on Sack-Ups 805 and found flapless:

as well as flapped:

But since the model numbers are (confusingly) the same - I think the flapless have probably superceded the flapped models -

Here's Sack-Ups own page on these - unfortunately they do not show photos - and there isn't any indication of separate flapped or flap-less models:

I also found an 800# for Sack-Ups:

You can say that again...BTW I called the 800 number you listed Vincent. They indicated that the current models available today DO NOT have flaps. So for anyone buying today, you will be buying flapless.

To be honest, I kind of liked the flapped models, but flapless will have to do.
