Okay, don't laugh, but I'm one of those guys who doesn't own a sharpening strop and probably never will. This weekend while sitting at the relatives' bored out of my skull I was playing with my wife's nail buffer: it's like a nail file, but used for buffing out the ridges on the backs of fingernails. It has three ultra-fine grit sandpapers on a stiff foam backing. I started to think it might work to put a finishing edge on my pocket knife blades... Whaddya know, it worked great! I use the roughest grit sparingly, then spent most time on the second grit paper, finally, "polished" the edge with the finest grit. I now have four scary, hair-poppingly sharp blades on my Boker Congress. These nail buffer thingys just cost a couple bucks at any drugstore.

Please don't banish me from this forum... :o

Hey, I have used them things too for rubbing out blemishes on blades and bolsters. Never thought about using them to sharpen with.

I'm not laughing, I've been using those for years, for stropping blades, polish bolsters, etc., sort of like the "sandpaper on mouse pad" trick. I have one that actually has seven grits, I buy my own since they get black dirty after use and the ladies don't like that...

You guys are all Girly men:D I use the sleeves of my canvas Carhart Jacket to finish my blades.:jerkit: :jerkit:

Multitasking is the only way to go! Girly or not. Go mix some cake batter with your cordless drill, it'll make you feel better.:D

You know, you can microwave a pretty nice steak if you carefully sear it with a propane torch before nuking. ^0^ Yes, I've used one of my nail buffs on my pocket knife before and was amazed at how well it worked.
