Sacrilege?

I detest the nylon sheaths that come with the 110. A nylon sheath for a 110 just seems so wrong, on so many different levels, at least to me.

Is it sacrilege to EDC Buck 110 in a leather Uncle Henry or Old Timer belt sheath, until I can get a proper black leather Buck sheath?

I love the nylon 110 sheath for EDC....Because it can be worn horizontally, not just vertically...Kind of like the 279 nylon sheath, another great EDC in a Nylon sheath. I wouldn't trade my nylon Buck 110 sheath for a leather Buck 110 sheath, so I do not know if it is sacrilege to use an Old timer or UH sheath......

I kind of agree... my not-so-humble 110 in 420HC (autographed by Chuck Buck when he was in Calgary a few years back, which makes it a bit special) goes in the traditional black leather sheath; My BassPro CPM154 goes in the nylon sheath. I almost hate to admit it, but I find the nylon sheath more comfortable and just as secure, plus you can carry it horizontally. You can order both from Buck. I took my leather sheath apart, melted in two or three coats of SnowSeal inside and out and re-stitched it with waxed nylon thread just to beef it up.

I'll try the nylon. My main concern is wear and aging. "Old" or "distressed" leather has character. "Old" or "distressed" nylon just looks really, really, bad.
I know the nylon (supposedly) dries faster and (supposedly) does not impart a patina to the brass bolsters. But leather is more traditional, and is not considered by most as "tactical". Seems most non-knife "people" tend to ignore a leather sheath, but notice the "tactical" nylon sheath, even if the knife in them is the same. "people" be strange critters sometimes.

I'm traditional and prefer leather too, but I have found nylon seems to work better for everyday, at least for my 110. It seems to form around the knife for a closer fit and doesn't catch on things as easily. I usually wear my shirts out, so maybe that's why. The nylon has held up pretty well so far, but time will tell. I do own both leather and nylon so I can switch depending on the situation (or just for fun).

I own both leather and nylon too. The nylon wins out because of carry options. It is rare that I carry my 112 though.

A few of my 110s came with nylon. These nylon sheaths still look brand new. I personally prefer the leather sheaths. I will say the last couple of distressed leather sheaths I have received has disappointed me. I do not care for the flat belt retainer. I really prefer it when there is a looped belt retainer.

When you slip and fall into a pile of horsemanure you won't feel bad putting the nyion sheath through the washing machine. Leather just doesn't hold up as well in a washing machine and the smell doesn't always go away.

It would seem you like leather. If it were me I would take this as an opportunity to have leather made for that knife. Or make one. I don't like those nylon sleeve sheaths either.

Eventually I'll order a leather sheath for my 50th but most of the time it will probably ride in the nylon especially if I'm at work.

There are a couple or more versions of nylon.
The heavier cordura and the flimsy nylon.
I carry one of the cordura during hunting season so I can wear it horzontal. Makes for easier getting in and out of the truck.
At the end of the season, it or they, go in the washing machine with my jeans. Or whenever needed.

The cordura that I like best, has the curved bottom and isn't bad looking.

something I do on the leather sheaths to clean them up some, shoe polish. Does pretty good.

I vastly prefer leather but I don't work around horse manure or motor oil. So I guess nylon has it's place.

I am more of a traditionalist. I bought a 692 a while ago, at one of the buck sales. I took one look at the sheath and asked for the leather version the wood handled one has.

Horizontal carry is sweet. I carried a balisong in a nylon sheath for a while, in the front next to belt buckle. Never in the way, super comfortable and very accessible. I'm gonna make a horizontal carry leather sheath for my 110. Try the nylon out and see if you like it, then see what you do.

Now what you do is just buy another Buck with the leather sheath and that way you have a backup knife and both types of sheaths.
Like you, I too prefer the leather and how an old worn leather sheath looks, but as much as I hate to admit it, that nylon or cordura is pretty handy. With the nylon, if you don't tuck in your shirt, you can't even tell you are carrying a knife. Another option is you can sometimes find the old bucklite 426 sheath from the 80's that is nylon or cordura and had an old camo pattern and might not look as tactical as the black.
