i got my first ZT a couple weeks ago, a 0300, and i have been very impressed with it. the other day while inspecting it i found a startling problem. it turns out if i hold the blade in one hand and the handle in the other and push downward on the spine of the blade the knife closes. i can even press the spine against a table and the lock will malfunction and close. i've spoken to long time ZT owners who have assured me i got a lemon. i sent her out on thursday and now i play the waiting game. i am pretty bummed that i had this issue on a knife that i was looking forward to getting for so long. heres a video of me demonstrating the issue.

that sucks but they will take care of you. I edc my 0300 and have even batonned with it without any lock damage. Its a beast of a blade but i dont have to tell you that :D you already know. Once its fixed you should be able to do anything with that knife without troubles. good luck with the wait.

Kerahaw/ZT customer service is the best! I know 1st hand, they fixed up my bad centered 0350 like new, and even touched up the blade!

I've used kershaw's warranty a couple times. They were very nice and quick. I wonder if the ZT warranty is the same crew

Clean the lock face and the blade tang.

It won't fix it most likely, as it looks like a lock geometry issue. It is worth a try though, because contaminates on either the lock face or blade tang can cause that.

so my 0300 came back today.. the original problem has been fixed. it looks like they ground down the back of the blade and now the lock is functioning like a charm. BUT..... is seems like a new problem has arose. when the blade is open there is vertical blade play and the lock seems to barely be touching the blade. is there anything i can do to remedy this or should i send it back in. im guessing when they ground the back of the blade they took a little too much off..

I would give it a little time for the lock bar to wear in before I sent it back.

it seems like there is a microscopic gap between the lock bar and the butt of the blade. when the knife is open i can pluck the lock bar with my finger and it will vibrate. i think i'll give it a week or two and send it back if nothing gets better.

You can also take it apart and bend the lockbar so that it will be more to the g10 side. Go slowly,, but it really works! Had to do it on ky first 301, still locks up like a vault.

Exactly what Bj said. If the spring is not bent enough it will do exactly what you have described. I am surprised that they ground the blade tang, when it should have been bent first. At least that is what I think.

I did exactly what you suggested and it worked like a charm! thanks for saving me the hassle of mailing it back!!

I've had to do that with a few knives, including a Kershaw. It's fairly rare but it happens. I'm glad you got it fixed.

Glad it worked for you. I generally do this on all my liner/frame locks anyway. It makes the spring stiffer to push away and, in my mind, a little safer.

Its not a lemon imo, I had the same problem with a 0200.

In that case 2 thing solved the problem.
1: removal of factory oil from thelock surface

2: break in, break in, break in.

Btw kershaw cs will take care of your 300. Good luck!

as I watched the video again, its hard to be sure but it looks like your lock bar has a dip in it? does it or is that just me?
