Sad day - My old mini lathe finally broke

I attempted my first bead yesterday....now I have some rework to do....not as easy as I thought, haha

Sorry to hear it buddy navman navman :( but, there are many options available these days with small capacities for not too much scratch. You'll be back!

If it's the gears, replace them with the metal gears when you do the job.

That sucks, Josh…but…now you have an excuse to buy the one you have always wanted!

Or replace the gears. Also a good choice. 😁

The plastic gears in my mini mill grenaded in the first few runs. I upgraded to a belt drive kit. If you use steel gears, the weakest link may be very nasty.

It's still has the original plastic gears. I am actually surprised they lasted as long as they have. The lathe is ~15 years old now. If it is anything more complicated, I'll probably just replace the whole unit.

when the gears in my mini mill went out i got the LMS belt drive conversion. dont know if they make one for the mini lathe but was a huge upgrade on the mill. better speeds and way less noise

When I still had a mini mill I converted it to that belt kit. Best investment I made for that machine! I bought a j head mill later but still believe the belt drive is the best upgrade you can make.

same picked up a small table high speed J (top rpm 5400ish) i still keep the mini for drilling and fly cutting all my handle scales (keeping the BP clean)
