Our pet dog boots who was my daughter's and son's best buddy was killed by a pit bull today. Boot had a habit of diiggin under the fence and getting lose. Well there was a pit bull who showed up in our neighborhood a couple days ago. my wife's cousin mentioned him on friday night. Boots got out this afternoon and ran into that beast. It killed him. I got a call from a neighbor abd passed by and saw that it was indeed ZBoots who the dog killed. It was so hard explaining to my 4 yr old daugter that her little doggie was gone. MAN it was hard. seeing her cry like that was too much!!!. We are pretty close with most of our neighbors here. Well while I as breaking the news to my wife and kids, about three of my neighbors jumped in their trucks caught and dispatched the animal. it was bad enough it got our dog, but I was thinking what if it would have attacked a child or something. That would have been horrible. We live in a four road neighborhood in the country. I think someone may have tossed the dog in our area. Its a shame this had to happen.

Heres to you Boots, thanks for being such a good dog for my kids. RIP.......:(

Man, Frank, That is really sad. Sorry this happened.
Give it a couple weeks for all you to grieve, and take the kids to the local shelter for a new puppy.

Dang Frank, that really sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. Stupid damn pit bull.

My 5 year old's cat (inside cat too) got out and was run over earlier in the year. We waited a week or so and adopted a puppy. I do think that makes it less traumatic for the children.

You have good neighbors. Texans taking care of business.

Man Pancho , I'm really sorry to hear this ,what a big bummer . As the others said , there are good animals at the shelters looking for a good home . Boxers are great , they love kids and bassetts are a kick in the butt .

Really am sorry to hear about the trauma in your lives and a real shame that there are people outthere that would dump a dog like that "pit" rather than deal with the dog properly if they could not afford to keep or give it the training and attention needed.

Frank,
Im sorry to hear about that. I wish everyone the best, and it sounds like the neighbors took of things, so that dog won't be a problem in the future.....Larry

Yea I was working in the shop today and He is usually there bugging me, nut not anymore.

Frank, I'm sorry to see this thread. Here there is a growing problem with pit bulls attacking people and animals. There are some sick, irresponsible folks who are behind this. Best wishes for your daughter. I know these things are tough on the little ones.

Thanks edro for the well wishes. I feel very guilty in the fact that I didn't see the hole he dug before this happened. Our neigborhood is a favorite dumping ground for unwanted animals. I know the county dog catcher by name.

Sorry for the loss, Frank. It's never easynloosing a pet, and watching a child's pain in loosing one makes it that much worse.

Ed's right about the problem here. There were a number of accounts a while back of people's horses and mini-horses getting attacked by packs of pits on the outskirts of Lubbock. My friends had to reinforce their horse fences as some of the attacks occurred on penned animals with the dogs breaking through the pens to get the animals. I had a patient tell me about a pit breaking through her screen door and killing her little pup in her own house. Stuff like that makes you seriously consider make concealed carry a part of your life.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this Frank :(

What a cutie too!!! I can't imagine how hard that talk was with your kids.

I know a lot of people say pit bulls are only made mean by their owners, and in fact my uncle had a pit that was a great dog... But why somebody would want an animal that so readily takes to being so mean and nasty is beyond me.

Sorry for the loss, Frank... we lost our 9yr old lab/aussie mix to cancer last year. We had a few weeks to get our heads around it before he was put down. For it to happen so randomly like that must be really hard.

If you look at the stats on aggression by breed, Pits aren't at the top but considering the amount of dammage they can inflict, they are by far the most dangerous. I bet most of those abandoned pits are fighters, too... shameful.

I have nothing against pits. A buddy of mine uses them as catch dogs when hog hunting. He would never abandon one when the dog is no longer wanted, he put in down first.

I am sorry pancho,
and I feel for your family.
That is the reason I do not like pits,
they don"t belong among kids and house pets.
Many people say different but that does not change the facts.
Their reputation precedes them.

Pancho and family.

A sad time for all of you. Losing a pack member leaves an empty spot in your heart.
My family is visiting in Mississippi this week and I am here alone with our three, four legged friends. The pack is sad that they are not around. So it works both ways; they miss us just as we miss them.
Enjoy all the days you share with your four legged friends.

Fred

Sorry to hear this. My dogs are a very important part of my family. To lose one would be tramatic. My thoughts are with you and yours. Sending smoke your way.

I got some good news yesterday. It seems my dog was fooling around with a neighbors weenie dog, and she had the puppies around the time he died. I saw my neighbor pulling out puppies from under his shed and asked if he needed help. He told me my dog was the father and if I wanted a pup I could have one. Well I asked my kids and wife and they were so exited, me too but I didn't show it. Anyways I thought it was pretty neat and my kids are exited to get the puppy once its old enough for us to take care of it. I am going to make my fence impenetrable so this one don't get out!.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss Pancho. I just read that you have a new puppy coming soon! This sad story has a happy ending after all.
