I received an email this morning with the sad news that my friend and fellow knife maker Kelly Carlson has passed away. I had known Kelly for about 6 years and had visited his shop on a few occasions. I visited him at home about 2 weeks ago. He was in good spirits and was taking a break from therapy. He was an innovative knife maker and he will be missed.
Here is a folder that he did.
Regards,
Chuck

VERY sad news Chuck. I had also received the email from the NCCA which Kelly was a "life" member and attended many shows.

Besides making VERY fine knives, Kelly was always a pleasure to see and chat with. He also was an avid motorcyclist and was quite knowledgeable about bikes and had quite a few of them.

My condolences to his family. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

Sad, sad news .............

I really enjoyed Kelly's work. He will be missed.

Sincere condolences go out to family, friends and loved ones.

I'm sad to hear this news, my sincere condolences to all, especially to his family and friends...

He was a very nice man and a good knifemaker. I got to know him during my years at Bladeshow and it was always nice going over to his table for a short talk during the slow hours.
Bladeshow will not be the same for me or my father.

Did a collaboration with him once where I forged a blade for him. He made a very different dagger.
One way to remember a person is from his work:

Aw, thats sad to hear. Never owned any but he made great clean stuff. His name was a household name and one of the first I heard of when I first got into knives.
