Well i had to send my gunny and Twist bali into darrel a few days ago. i work with a guy who every one (including himself) said he was the best knife shapener in town like he should be paid to do it ... so like the idiot i am i said why not let him sharpen mine up saves me the trouble right? ... no i was wrong BAD wrong the dude took my knives to a F*^&+%G Grinder and completely ground out my re-curves in both blade and ruined them  F'ing MAD i was ... i know what your thinking i should have known better but to be honest it never crossed my mind that some one could be that ignorant to how to sharpen a dang knife ... anyways i called darrel about getting them rebladed he said he would look at them and let me know something ... i waiting to hear back still i miss them hardcore ... i guess you never know how much you love something till you have to send it off for a little bit ...its driving me nuts not having them :grumpy:

WTF?!?! That SUCKS, man!

Maybe you should return the favor by offering to "wash and detail" his car for him...with a crowbar. Couldn't turn out much worse than the job he did on your knives. :(

That sucks. Seriously bad. Richard J is the only serious professional knife sharpener I'd want to let near my blades. But since I can do it myself, hey, I'm pretty happy.

yea lol " come on duder i wont hurt your car lol" i can do it myself as well but i will admit i was having a little bit of trouble on the recurve of the radien blade

That sucks bro, I would've asked to see his work but I'm sure Darrell will fix you up. If you ever need sharpening again send it to Richard J, I've sent him Everything from a new Sebenza to My sisters BF's Tops Backbite which has to be the hardest blade I've ever tried to sharpen. He knowsthe meaning of sharp and he's a good guy:thumbup:

2" PVC pipe secrion and some AO sandpaper, problem solved. Or even a Spyderco Sharpmaker would do the trick.

Bummer.

No way I am letting some one else sharpen my knives unless they are Richard J, Ban, Siegle, Horton, or other trusted pros.

I once watched my Grandpa sharpen a hatchet with his grinder. He got the edge red hot, and he was about the handiest man I know (he was an airplane mechanic for Boeing, and ran his own farm, and an Auto shop for most of his life after that).

Some people just don't get it.

I would bet if he used a grinder, and removed enough steel to grind out a recurve etc, he probably burned out the temper/heat treat on the blade.

hark can put an edge on a knife you would never f'ing believe i me whoa dang sharp ... but i couldnt get a hold of him to do it :(

I feel for you man . Im sorry that happened. Ive done the same thing and learned my lesson. I can sharpen knives good but had a friend at work who i thought could sharpen knives. He didnt do the hack job your friend did but he screwed up the edge and scratched the hell out of my blades. From now on i just do it myself. I hope they can be fixed for you.

yea its 300 to replace the blades i told him to send them back for now i cant afford that at this moment but i will replace them in the future and my gunny wasnt custom but my twist was :(

Damn man. that's awful.

I hope you let the guy know how much his shit work will be costing you and that he probably shouldn't ever "sharpen" anything again.
