Here in Alabama, in the midst of the hype leading up to Saturday's Iron Bowl (Auburn vs Alabama, the event around which life revolves for the faithful here) comes sad news.

A former Alabama running back, Siran Stacy, was driving last night in a passenger van with his family near Dothan, Alabama, when struck by a truck driving in the wrong lane.

Killed: His wife and four of his children, as well as the driver of the truck.

He and a three year old daughter were the only survivors. She was airlifted to Birmingham and there has been no public word on her condition. He was reported to be "stable".

The incident has brought Auburn and Bama people together, and has put a silly football game that the whole state gets worked up about in perspective. It has really impacted me. Please pray for recovery and strength for this man. He is going to need it.

And drive carefully over this holiday period, please.

+1 on the careful driving everyone that is travelling over the holiday. You never know!

Yeah, from your friendly forum infiholic nurse, please be careful out there, guys!! And smoke up from AZ.

A girl needs a knife...

I don't know how anyone could recover from something like that. That's pretty awful. 'Bama by 10.

Hey Mike, I remember Siran very well, being the SEC nut I am. But I had not heard the news. One hell of a running back(just ask GA)

Sorry to here about the terrible news.

Your right, a game is just a game. I will be watching it as always, I'm sure it will be mentioned. Auburn is class all the way, I bet they will have some type of tribute for his family.

Very, very sad news for the SEC, and anyone that has a heart for that matter. Us SEC folk act like we hate each other, but when it comes down to it we all pull for each other when playing out of conference or when a tragic event like this happens.

edit- Mike, I will keep Siran and his daughter in my prayers. Hope his body will recover but this will be tough for him for ever. Man this is sad.

That is very sad!! I will be watching the game also and I will definetly be thinking of that family!

this kind of stuff really pisses me off. I feel sad for him and hope the best for both he and his daughter.

I am real sorry to hear this news. It is actually amazing how people, me included, get worked up over trivial things like a game. Until something like this happens. Then we find out how trivial things really are. Nobody should have to go through this. There will be alot of prayers coming from Tennessee. Stay safe everyone.

Dang, I was in Dothan, Alabama last night and did not hear anything about this.

Keep your heads heads up, and safe driving.
