not really, but nobody replied to my earlier thread even after i reposted it:
here's my question:

can micarta handles be painted or dyed? if so, what is the preparation and best types of paint or dyes?

Thanks !

Good Evening-

I'll bid $300.00 on the ATAK but only if a sheath is included with the deal.

ummm...there's no sheath OR knife...it's an attention grabbing title to get some answers here...

AFAIK one of Micarta's desirable attributes is it's non-absorbency. Sure you can paint it or dye it but only the surface will be affected and is subjuct to scratching and peeling.

You 'can' paint Micarta, but being that none of the paints will stick for long under (any) use, I'd suggest the 'hot pink' shade, and should you ever change your 'preference', you can always sand it off, or paint it 'blew' ;)

No... you can't dye Micarta, (and get it to 'stick' anyways) but, you can stain it if you use the right 'cream'...

That said, I hereby bid $301 for the non-existant knife, in the unallowable auction...

Hope that helps, and thanks for helping to add your name to my 'ignore' list...have a nice day

So let me get this straight. You're planning to paint Saddam's knife before you send it to the high bidder?

I read recently that President Bush has the gun Saddam was carrying at his time of capture. But not his knife?

I wanna see color selection before I bid.

Bush would have had Saddam's knife mounted, too, but he only collects Texas toothpicks. :D

Let me get this straight: Does Sadam's knife have Micarta handles?

And what proof do you have that this is Sadam's knife? Any pictures? Signed confessions... I mean certificates?

I mean Bush has Sadam's gun. What do you think his knife would be worth?

I'll bit $350!

Is there a "Buy it Now" option?

My apologies for highjacking this thread, but in this case I think it is an improvement over what is happening here.

Esav... sometime ago we both made posts about toothpicks and I mentioned some of my larger 5 1/2 to six inch ones, and you responded with a slight interest. I didn't post a pic then, forgot about it, but here's a six incher, made in England by Graham Clayton. To show it's size, I've placed it between an M3 fighter and a standard sized 5' toothpick. To my knowledge this knife has never been owned by either George W Bush nor Saddam.

Good deal. That looks like something that should be out working, not sitting on a display in an office somewhere. :) It's a great format. Even with a long blade, it's not too heavy for daily carry.

Nice toothpicks - although neither one appears to have paintable micarta scales. Unless you've cunningly painted them to look exactly like stag and bone.
