Saddest things that ever happened to your MT's :(

So a few minutes ago, while I was roaming around my kitchen, I accidentally dropped my closed Victorinox Trekker. It hit the tiled concrete floor at angle, with one side of the head portion hitting first. The fall bent the aluminum liner inside the nylon scale forcing it to close up on the adjoining liner. The damage made the can opener tool not open anymore.

I found this really sad because for the longest time, I always saw the Trekker as some sort of invincible tool. It was a sad realization that some of it's liners jut out too much at the end without any support from the tools inside, rendering it vulnerable to bending due to unfortunately placed blows. :(

I'm pretty sure it can be easily fixed, but still, it is pretty sad. And even if I've fixed it, I probably won't have the liner as smooth and straight as it was before.

Made me think, how many of you guys had sad experiences with your old reliable MT's or even your new ones?

I forgot my LM Charge Ti that I had for almost 10 years somewhere at work. Someone else claimed it for themselves. I had to get a new Charge TTi.

This morning I dropped my brand new Victorinox Cybertool 34 in Black on the work floor that I bought for $85. It was to replace the Cybertool Lite that had sold b/c I didn't have a need for the led light and the magnifying plastic.

I had the exact same think happen to my OHT. Luckily, a little bending with pliers and it was good to go. I figure it gives it character.

Two incidents, but each had a happy ending.

I have a SOG Power Plier that I used while participating in an exercise. We had to collect 13 rolls of concertina wire from an exercise "deployment" area. Twelve rolls came along very nicely, but one was a tangled mess. I used the Power Plier to cut the wire in two places. I bent the jaws, but I accomplished the mission. I E-mailed SOG, asking if what I'd done constituted abuse. They said to send it back, so I did. It took several weeks, but it came back with new jaws.

I have one of the original Leatherman Super Tool models. My then-fiancee and I were prepping her house for sale and I needed to cut a piece of cement board (much harder than the usual gypsum board/drywall). I used the saw and after about 8 inches or so, the cutting stopped. The saw was no sharper than an Outback steak knife. I sent it back to Leatherman, expecting them to replace the saw blade. Instead, they sent me a new tool!

Great customer service on both counts!

Lent my first Leatherman,(circa 1995), to a work buddy along with the rest of my hand tools. You can probably guess the rest of this story. Hounded him till he gave me 40 bucks for that Leatherman though!

Brand new Cybertool 41. Was trying to superglue some fake jewels back onto a friends shirt...after having several drinks..got superglue on the brand new translucent red scales. Both sides. Then to top it off, the next day at work I borrow a co-workers nail polish remover to see if it might take it off. Just made it worse.

Well, it was my own doing, and the SAK was bought to be a user, so now it gets used and I don't worry much. I suppose a couple years down the road I could refresh with some new scales.

Compare that with my old roommate asking for a can opener.. I hand him my leatherman and he walks out.. he pops out the serrated blade and saws into the can!

Someone broke into my car last year and stole my SOG pocket power tool out of my glove-box. I had that MT for at least 13+ years!

My SOG Power Plier jaws broke while squeezing some copper tubing.... literally snapped right off....
