Just picked up a 140ot Trail Boss with the Safe-t-grip handle (USA) in the Bay. The knife appears unused but the previous owner must have been a smoker and the knife handle is dirty and stinky. :barf: Is there any harm in submerging the entire handle in warm soapy water and then scrubbing gently with a brush? I will dry thoroughly after washing.

G'Day, My 147OT 'Pro Fisherman' filet knife with the Safe-T-Grip handle has been used dozens of times filleting fish and has been in salt water, submerged in fresh water, completely covered in Snapper guts and scales <including me> and washes up every time, takes a perfect edge and still looks and smells like the first day I used it....I reckon your trail boss will survive some soapy water..they really are quality handles/knives and the Schrade + Stainless Steel will not rust if you wash it thoroughly and I use some silicone spray to finish off. Good luck! Hoo Roo

Warm soapy water should clean it right up. You could also use a nylon bristle brush (like a fingernail brush) on the handle if there are spots that don't clean easily.

If it is residue from tobacco smoke, it should come off with rubbing alcohol, which won't hurt the steel or the handle.

There's blue.black,green and orange examples.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Now I feel challenged to find one in each color... uh... to match whatever hunting apparel I happen to be wearing at the time.

If the wife gives me any guff, I will remind her that she is the one that always insists that her shoes always match her bag.

On a related note, does anyone know where I might find a suitable box for the Trail Boss?
