Safe To Carry Halo In Pocket?

Hello All!

I just picked up an awesome Halo V and I'm loving it. I want to carry it sometimes and I really hate the sheath. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with carrying these in their front/rear pockets and if there have been any accidental openings? I searched around and found a few threads about other knives opening but nothing specifically on the Halo line.

Looking forward to any info and advice, thanks!

I would say you're just asking for a sharp piece of metal to meet your junk at some point if you pocket carry a Halo. Mine fires pretty hard. Hard enough to pierce the pocket of jeans, I bet. I'd just save the Halo for couch fondling and get a Scarab or Ultratech to carry. Nice knife, though.

I don't know why you would carry Halo in your pocket. Game disks are pretty large and useless without a computer or Xbox to play them... I couldn't resist :)

For the actual knife, it should be fine. Hundred, if not thousands carry them daily with no problems, and I have yet to hear of one deploying in the pocket. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened and doesn't mean it can't happen, it just means it is unlikely. I'm not too familiar with the knife, but I would think it would have a safety to prevent accidental openings, and if not you could always make a small leather slip sheath for it. You can even make a slip sheath that doesn't interfere with the pocket clip.

I for sure would not carry it in my back pocket, that just seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I would think the front pocket would be a lot less likely to have that much weight push against the button. I don't recall how much force it takes to fire one, I haven't had one in a while. Yeah, get a Scarab or UTX for the pockets :)

I wouldn't carry a HALO in a pocket unless it's in a sheath that protects both the button and the opening. There's a reason these knives don't come with pocket clips.

Thanks for the replies so far. The button takes quite a bit pressure to deploy the blade and it is recessed a bit so it takes a pretty deliberate press. I do like it in the front pocket so far but I don't put any keys or other things there at the same time. I would love to find a Scarab also but they are pretty scarce. Anyone have a lead on one? Thanks again for the advice.

There are Scarabs and Troodons in the Exchange all the time, you just need to jump on them pretty quick. I got the last one that came up for sale about a week ago :)

Thanks, I need to check the Exchange more often and faster. I subscribed to the area for the Autos but it only sends it out once a day. Any other suggestions to watch it closer? I'll also go post in the WTB section. Thanks

Just wondering, does anyone make a nice belt sheath or a the slip sheath that DKB45 was talking about?

If I was serious about pocketing a Halo, I would send it out and have somebody make a nice kydex sheath for it to clip into, then put that in your pocket. It would be able to protect both the bladeport and the button. Bonus! Keeps lint out of your knife :D

Check out the sheathmakers forum :)

I could make you a leather back pocket "wallet" rig.

My uncle was a cop. When he gave me my first switchblade he told me to never carry a switch in my pocket unless it had a very good working lock that I used all the time. In his experience he had seen more than one fool with a good cut in their hip when their switch fired in their pocket. He said it would happen when the person was running from him or during the takedown.

I don't think I've ever had a side opening auto open accidentally, but I'm sure it happens. That's the good thing about a double action otf. You ain't never gonna have to worry about that. Hell, when I got my Scarab I could barely fire the thing without 2 hands.

Safest place is tucked into your waist band in the front of your pants

Guy I know had one in his pocket blade up thinking if it went off it wouldnt go into his leg. Than one day it went of well he was getting his lighter out of the same pocket into his hand. 6 months latter guy still gives weak hand shakes. Lesson learned always carry in your waistband.

Id sure hate to have a knife opened there. Ya know.....facing stuff.

Short answer is no.

Do a google image search for "Microtech Halo Sheath". You'll get some ideas of what you need. A small sheath that covers the button and blade opening would be enough, but I sure as hell wouldn't cary one bare.
