i have a h3 traser and i remember reading that there's a time window during which you will damage the watch if you adjust the date
is that true? or even accurate nowadays?

There are some mechanical watches that can be damaged if you adjust them during the hours near midnight when they're changing the date. That isn't a problem for any quartz watch.

im a watch idiot >.<
what's a quartz watch as opposed to a mechanical watch?

Yours is a quartz watch. It uses a battery and the second hand moves in one-second jumps. It is controlled by a tiny little tuning fork made of quartz crystal.

Mechanical watches are the old-fashioned kind powered by a spring, which has to be wound up either by hand or by an eccentric weight self-winding mechanism. Mechanical watches are still made for aficionados but they tend to be expensive these days....
