Safer Tick Removal

I saw this at the vet when I took our dog in for his shots. When I asked the technician, she said that all the staff carried them, and they were great for use on humans (especially kids). Apparently, this "Tick Twister" is much safer than tweezers as the contents of the tick aren't squeezed back into the blood stream (lovely thought).

Here's a video:

and the company name:

"G and B Marketing"

I suppose you just ask for them at your vet.

Looks good!
Thanks for the info.
I had ordered "tick tweezers" from twowolves a
while ago and never got them.
Gonna see if I can find these.
Still have to get a pair of tweezers for those pesky
splinters :D

Looks a little like a sheet metal gizmo I have...split it under and gentry pry it out.
In the case of the one i have, it seems more like you convience them to let go rather then pull them off.

A few years ago I found a "Ticked Off". It was simply the easiest tool I've ever used. My Dachshund had a habit of picking up tics and this thing was a godsend.

Anyone use both? I wonder which is better? Tick Twister or Ticked Off?

I have seen the Ticked Off before. Never seen the twister. I need one of these for my dogs.

for years, I have used a tiny little plastic thing that looks like a spoon. It has a v shaped slit in the bowl, and works like this tick twister.

I still rub flowers of sulfur on my skin before going into the woods, and rarely ever pick up a tick.

Ticks are bad here. Tweezerman has been the rule.

Thanks for the thread and Ideas for other tools that might work better than tweezers.

Just in the last week I've pulled two out of myself, one being a Deer Tick his head is still in my back and took a dose of antibiotics for just in case.

The animals get a lot too and have lost count on the number I've pulled from them. Last year the Dog was treated for Lyme.

REI sells practically the same thing, exept it doesn't have the huge handle and is just a piece of sheat metal, but it attaches to and removes the tick in the same way. Plus it fits in your FAK/PSK a lot easier.

I toss out the magnifying glass and put the metal thing in a small vial, so I can take any ticks home with me to give the doctor.

Are the Sawyer Tick Pliers any good? My business is a Sawyer dealer but we don't sell anything we don't use. We dont' have many tick issues here - thank goodness, so we don't sell any pliers or anything else tick related. Haven't had the need.

However back in 1990 I picked up a a Dog Tick on the arm that was cemented in that we couldn't get him out. A trip to the ER and they had to dig him out. I'm not sure if any of these products would have gotten him out.

I use this Pro-Tick remedy as well - it works. And we have lots of ticks around here.
