Sage 1 - detent ball making scraping sound on blade tang

Hi guys,

I just got a sage 1, and while opening the blade, the detent ball on the liner lock is making a gritty, scraping sound on the tang. I completely disassembled and cleaned the knife, there is no dirt. I tried oil and that didn't help. It almost seems like the tang of the blade is not completely smooth.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

My Sage 1 has a very faint sound. It doesn't sound gritty and it's not really noticeable unless it's quiet in the house but it's there. None of my other other liner lock knives do this. My Sage 2 doesn't do it either.

The blade tang has the same satin grind than the flats do. The ball is rubbing on this finish. Just open in a lot for a few days or use normally for a few weeks. It just gets better with time!

This thread had me curious about my own Sage 1 and my other liner locks. I had never noticed any gritty sound before. I checked them all this morning and did not hear any gritty sounds.

Of course, I have used these knives a lot in the last year so....if they were gritty at one time they aren't now.

I say give it some time and some use and the gritty sound/feel will go away.

My sage has a noticeable "grit" to it as the detent crosses over the larger than normal grind marks on the tang. It's not the smoothest opening/closing action but the lock bar is freakin butter! No matter how hard I open or use the knife the lock bar always has absolutely zero stick.

Yeah, put a little grease or whatever on there, use it. The ball bearing will create a spectacularly smooth track on that blade in no time.
