I was using the Sage and it opened and closed smoothly. I put it in the pocket and 10 minutes later had to use it. For some odd reason now it is very very rough. All that smoothness is out the door.
What is the problem and what can I do to smoothen it out.

Try using some lube. I use TUF-GLIDE and it works pretty well. After you apply the lubricant, open and close it a few times.

Also, make sure there is not any pocket lint, or the pivot is not too tight.

CRK Fluorinated Grease is the answer to everything. I use it on all my pivots, makes them smooth as silk.

But you can not take the knife apart to properly grease the pivot.

Well then i guess you are stuck with it the way it is or you will have to send it in for service.

With a penetrating lubricant like Tuf-Glide that comes with a nice needle tip applicator, it's pretty easy to work it into the pivot without having to take anything apart.

Just take it apart if you are confident that u can assemble it properly. If not, just give your sage some time and it will be smooth

Taking apart any Spyderco voids the warranty.

Oh, well! :D If you don't tell, I won't. ;)

Another thing to try - if you have an air compressor, hit it with air at 90-100 psi, then lube with CLP or something like that.

First I would flush out the pivot. Soap and running water with a toothbrush will work. Next I would use WD-40 spray the joint while working the knife. Then the soap and water treatment again. Finally I would lube using a paper match and your favorite lube. Be carefull not to use too much.
