I'm torn, and not sure what to purchase next. I've always wanted to try ZDP-189 and think the Delica would be a great way to try this steel. Then I keep reading all the positive reviews on the Sage 1. The street price difference between the two is only $20. So what are your thoughts?

Sage 1 was my first Spyderco, so I may be biased. But it's one hell of a knife. I think the ergos blow the Delica away and I really like the choil and clip.

The Delica is still a very nice knife, so either way you should come out on top. :D

i have the caly 3 in zdp-189 i have a very hard time sharpening it. when trying to sharpen it on the sharpmaker even with slight slight pressure somehow the edge comes out toothy. im not good at sharpening so im having a very hard time sharping zdp. The problem i have with zdp is that im very hesitant to carry it because its such a pain to sharpen. id rather get the delica ffg in vg10 over the zdp to be honest. Right now i really want to get a sage 1 or 2 to give it a try, keep hearing good things about it. i regret picking the caly 3 cf over the sage when deciding, because i think id be happier with s30v

Unless you're really dying to try ZDP, I'd go with the Sage. It's one of the best EDCs around in my opinion. Of course, you could always pick one up and get the other down the line (it's almost inevitable).

maybe the caly 3 cf like i got since its somewhat sage 1 like and its zdp'

but to be honest id rather have a sage 1 then a caly 3 cf at this moment

I like the Sage 1 better than the ZDP Delica. I usually am competent sharpening blades but have had real problems with the ZDP 189. If I ever let it get dull it takes a very long time to get the factory edge back on it. I also like the ergonomics of the Sage 1 better. The handle fits in my hand perfectly and the design allows great control of the blade for precision cuts.

I do love the Delica, it was my first Spyderco, but I think the Sage is better overall in ergonomics and choice of steel. BTW my favorite knife is the Sage 2.
