Sage 1 or Manix 2 ???

I received the Manix 2 XL --- too big (wide) and point touching a liner. Tried the Sage 1 and it is very nicely made but small and has a very thin liner. The carbon fiber is nice but not as nice as I expected. So, I ordered a Manix 2, regular size. Overall, better than the XL. Still, it is a bit heavy and has a sabre grind. On the plus side, it has excellent fit and finish, S30V (not 154), and has a strong lock. It is all black.

So, the Sage 1 with very good fit and finish but small size of the blade and handle. It is very light weight. The Manix 2 is a bit heavier than it should be --- no liner lock cut outs. But it is a stronger knife than the Sage 1. Just a bit cheaper than the Sage 1 - $95 vs. $105. The Sage 1 seems a bit sharper with its FFG, but both are very sharp. Both are nice.

Anyone have much experience with either ??? Or both ??? Thanks!!!

i have experience with both knives. for some reason the sage didnt cut well for me. i kind of grew to dislike the knife and the feeling of it. the jimping is basically for show and im a sucker for jimping because my hands are big on that small knife.

the manix 2 black on black is awesome! i have it right now and edc it alot. the sage looks nicer and is lighter, but the manix has a very comfortable fit. i prefer full flat grounds but i like the hollow grind on the manix. from a functionality standpoint the manix 2 is prefered by ME. and i am a city slicker.also, the manix feels indestructible. The sage has a sense of class that you cannot get through the manix. Choose wisely, they are both great knives.

i have no experience with the light weight manix 2, but it seems like it would be best of both worlds, just a suggestion. FFG, light, ball lock, jimping, wire clip, and i think its a better looking one then the normal manix 2

The Manix 2 is over all built to be a robust knife, and it is.
It can get just as sharp as the Sage 1, but it does have a thicker blade and grind.
Leading to a thicker edge.

The Sage 1 is a perfect little EDC knife. I've never heard of the liner lock failing. I've never heard of a Spyderco Liner Lock failing.

Both are fully capable to do several jobs.

They are both over all excellent knives. I didn't think the Manix 2 was too heavy but the Sage 1 is much lighter.

You really can't go wrong with either but they're also very different knives.

The Sage is a great edc.
I have the Sage 1 and 2 simply because they're so easy to carry and perfect for public or formal settings.
Not to mention, it's leaf shaped s30v gets sharper than all hell .
I've heard that the manix 2 is a sturdy knife, but I've avoided it because many people claim it's not very pocket friendly and a lil' bulky.

very true. its not a front pocket friendly knife, i carry it in the back pocket. not sure on the exact numbers but i think that the sage is thicker; but more narrow(making it better for front pocket carry). the manix 2, being thinner; but wider, is easier to sit on. i really wish i still have my sage to compare right now on the exact thicknesses, but i do not :(

I carry a sage 2 all the time as my secondary and its one of the best production blades I've owned. It's has handled abuse better than most beefy knives I own.

The Manix 2 is my favorite full size spyderco and as a main EDC its perfect. I have the M4 steel version and it stays sharp! Either way you're in good hands :D.

Thanks to all for responding. (I think knife enthusiasts are among the brightest and, more importantly, nicest. At least on this board.) Anyway, yes a difficult choice. I tested them against typing paper and, boy, did they cut !!!

I'm not sure what I'll do but as one nice respondent said, they are very different knives. I tend to prefer heavy, strong knives but that's most of what I have. The Sage 1 would be a change for me. (My "go to" heavy knife is the ZT 0350.) The Sage 1 is 3 inches so legal almost everywhere and I'm considering a move to California.

Anyway, have not made a decision. Thank you very much. :-)

Sounds like you're trying to pick one.
Of your two, I only have the Sage, and I think it's great.
Light duty-edc knife. I also have heavy duty folders,
for when I'm not at work. Why not keep both?
