As you know, this is my favorite folder. Bar none. I just purchased a back-up in case I (God help me) lose my current one. Well the new one shows me how grippy the carbon fiber is when you first get it. Is there any way I can get that grippy feeling back to my 1st Sage? Does she have to go in for a spa treatment? if so, how much and how long will it last as a EDC? Is it worth it?

Help me fellow Spyders....

It's likely the oils from your hands ect. making the old one feel more slippery. What have you tried cleaning it with?

Got my first Sage 1 today in the mail from Knifeworks. Blade perfectly centered. Perfect size IMO. What a great knife! Like you, I want another one.

my though is that my sage 1 has not much grip because of its carbon ply !even when it was new,not much grip on the scales! this knife and my native 5 witch by the way, truly has griped G-10 scales are my most loved EDC knifes as of this year! really thinking of getting the sage #2 for my collection.

Thanks everybody. I'm sure that it's just wear and normal. I could etch it with a Dremel tool (but I won't) and given enough time, that too would wear down. I just wondered if anybody here had a trick up their sleeve to rejuvenate the carbon fiber?

J LeeACP...I'm sorry to hear about your latest addiction. :) I remember the days when I was a young little hillbilly growing up in southern WV, thinking an Uncle Henry or a Shrade was as good as it got. Then...fortunately/unfortunately, I found this place! My addiction to knives is kinda like my M-I-L driving over the cliff in my brand new Corvette (which I don't have one of)

Here's my latest. My new co-workers dad has a forge. (here we go....)

If you wash your hands and get the grease off them from the fried chicken and French fries the knife won't feel as slippery.

Either that or try washing off the scales with kitchen detergent, a great degreaser.. or run the knife through the dishwasher cycle and be sure to lube it once it finishes the drying cycle. You will not hurt it doing this and all the crud will get washed off, usually inside and out. It's a Spydie, it can take it!

I lived in Alvon for about a year while we built a 4 story Senior home in Lewisburg. That was in the late 70's. Is WSS's still quaint?

Mr. Gatorflash -- It's not the fried chicken I'm worried about, it's the hot butter oozing off the cornbread from the brown beans and cornbread. :)

No, I've had this knife for a few years and I've handled her a lot. I have used the heck out of her. I'll try to get a pic of her.

WSS is beautiful. Haven't been up in a while but will always consider it home. Parents retired to WVa in Lewisburg before moving back to SC a few years back.

I don't think I've had a reduction in grip since I got mine. My detent had become a little bit reduced, but a good cleaning fixed it up.

I used to have the Sage 1 as my user and my Sage 2 for my collection. I prefer the Sage 2 as the Titanium scales are more grippy than the CF scales.

However, that may change as the Titanium scales gets more use.

I think if some of you had your old one (like me) and a brand new one beside it (like me) you'd better understand where I'm coming from. The old one just doesn't have that grippy feeling anymore. You can't beat a side by side comparison. All I want to know is if there is anyway to help my older Sage 1 out?

Well, I'll admit I never carry my Sage 1. However, I have a 2 CF Chaparrals, one that's brand spanking new and one that's been carried and used a fair amount over the last 4 years. They use the same "twill" textured CF as the Sage 1 and I cannot, in all honesty, feel any difference in grip between them, or between them and my Sage 1.

I'm inclined to think, as others have suggested that something is making the scales on your older one feel slicker. For example, you may have inadvertently transferred some silicone or teflon based lubricant to them from your hands. Have you tried cleaning the scales with alcohol?

My hands are as clean as a surgeon's. There is a difference between old and new. I guess my old one has a lot more wear than normal. Oh well, I still love her.
