Sage 1 vs. Dragonfly G10

So, for everyday EDC knife tasks (box opening, food prep, package opening, cardboard cutting, carving, flicking :D, you know...), which one would you choose, and why? The Sage 1, or the G10 Dragonfly? I find the Sage 1 more universal and practical, while the little Dragonfly keeps grabbing my attention. I don't know, maybe because I find it "cute" :p? JK. I find the DF more attractive, but the Sage more practical (and fun, I want to learn how to do a middle finger flick). I'll probably end up getting both in the future, but one is gonna have to wait a while after I get the other. So which one should I get?

I have both. The Sage 1 is probably the better all around EDC blade if you were to just get one knife for now. The size and material of the blade make it more useful, in my opinioon.. But the G10 Dragonfly is extremely capable for how small it is. I keep it in my coin/watch pocket in my jeans/khakis along with my Leatherman Squirt since it's so size efficient.
However, I still carry my DF2 G10 much, much more than the Sage.

I have a Sage II and a Dragonfly Salt. The Dragonfly is tooooooo small for me to deploy using the Spidie hole - as easily as other knives - and I don't have big hands and my fingers are still nimble. That takes it off my EDC list. I like it very much but it is a coin/watch pocket knife that require 2 hands to open. The Sage is excellent in all respects as an EDC.

Like Jibbles, I have both knives. Both are very nice knives and get EDC time. If you do a lot of food prep, the Sage is a better choice. The larger blade is a definite plus. Really can't go wrong with either. If you like CF scales, the Sage I handles look great.

The heck with it. Get them both!

I recently got a Cat. The size is between the DF and Sage. I'm really happy with it.

I have a Sage 2 and a Dragonfly G10 and H1.

For EDC I would pick the Sage without a second thought. I much prefer the longer blade especially for food prep.

I love the Sage series. Great ergonomics and classy all purpose design. If you don't have any other knives with a ~3" blade length then go with that.

But I personally like the Dragonfly even more nowadays. I do have big hands, and the Dragonfly feels and works great. Mine is se H1 and with the FRN it's ridiculously light and thin. The serrated edge makes it cut like a pint sized beast, and I have no trouble using to Spydie hole to flick or open it up.

Nest choice would be to get both haha. FRN DF2 is inexpensive and Sage 1 is a great value. I think you'll be happy either way, but go with whichever one looks more interesting to you 👍

It's all about size. IMO the Sage 1 would be much easier to use for any significant cutting than the Dragonfly, the Dragonfly would be better if space is at a premium. (And actually the Sage is smaller than what I prefer to carry.) Everybody's situation is different and Spyderco makes a wide range of knives.

For some reason I just can't get overly excited about the G-10 DF. Maybe, at least to me, the DF loses some of its appeal with the added mass and thickness when compared with the FRN models. Maybe we need a linerless CF DF? Or would that just be the Caly 2.25?

So I guess to answer your question, I'd go Sage 1. It is a very pretty, practical piece.

Throwing in some other options:

Chaparral CF - Sage 1 Looks in a lighter, slightly smaller package

Caly 3 - Sage 1ish size, DFish looks and ergos

If those are your only choices, then go with the Sage. It is probably one of the best values in a knife that you'll find, and much more capable and refined than the Dfly.
