So I think I'm going to get the sage 1 as my next edc knife, the only thing is that it is made in Taiwan, is it still worth the money I'm paying for it? Or is there a better option out there

I doubt that you will find a better knife for the price of a sage 1 some time they go for $85 bucks at the exchange . Sage 1 is the reason I love spyderco . Very nice and classy knife great for edc and even better as a dress up knife . The pocket clip works great and looks great with the carbon fiber . Sage 1 is top on my favorite knives . I traded and sold the other sage I had and kept the sage 1 .

I'm just going to suggest going over to the spyderco sub-forum and look at what they have said about that knife and taiwan made spydercos.

IMHO and many others, Taiwanese made Spydercos are the highest quality out of the three places they are made. Every one I've got, handled, or seen has been absolutely perfect. It's insane the quality that comes out of that place, but it gets a bad rap for being part of China (if it is in fact).

I just asked about this knife on here today and the answer was overwhelming YES! I ordered one and I'm expecting it by Monday :) can't wait

Taiwan made Spydies are the smoothest you'll find (imho).
Go for it, you won't be disappointed, love my Sage.

The Sage 1 is a great knife, extremely well made with great materials.

It wasn't "for me" personally, but still very nice.

Best "Made in Taiwan" knife I have ever seen. I was put off by that too before I ordered mine, but once I received it, I realized there is nothing to worry about - it's as good as my Golden Colorado stuff - no joke.

In fact, I liked it so much, I got the Sage 2 also:

I try to buy only US, but the Sage 1 was to good to pass up. Mine is very well made, and its a great design IMO.

Like others, I love my Sage. I have the one with the bolt action lock and CF scales. Nice, responsive, easy carry knife.
