Sage 2 - Functional Art

The postman brought it today. What can I say?

The Sage 2 is minimalist design at its best. This knife belongs in MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). It has everything a good knife should have and nothing that it shouldn't. It is a pure example of form follows function. I love it!

The whole thing is held together by three screws! There are really no parts to break. No little springs to repair. Open construction allows for easy cleaning. And of course, it's super sharp and the FFG blade is a great slicer. It's simple, elegant, and functional.

It has taken the best elements of the Native and the Caly 3 and made them better. The ergonomics are better than either of those two knives, imo. It walks and talks as well or better than any knife I have. The RIL frame lock is sure and smooth.

I don't own a Sebenza, but out of all the knives I own if I could only have one folding knife I think this might be it.

If you don't already have one, get one. You won't regret it.

I agree as well gosh didn't you just LOVE openeing it!!!
So beautiful!

glad you picked it up at that wonderful price!

Spyderco makes knives that approach the level of art in their simplicity and function. I wonder if Sal has won any industrial design awards?

I didn't realise there's an orange Delica!

where can i get it??

I have stated this elsewhere, but I very, very gently chamfered/rounded over the edge of the Spydie hole on my Sage 2 with a rat tail file. It did not seem that sharp to me until I sat there opening it 900 times as I sometimes do. If you like it sharp, thats groovy, but you can barely round it over so that its not visible to the eyeball, but still easier on the thumb. I also smoothed out that line that bisects the spydie hole. Not enough that you can see it, but it just makes it less sharp.

Yeah!, with so many knives there is such great anticipation and then when you finally get it it's somehow not quite what you thought or hoped it would be. That's not a problem with the Sage 2. This knife exceeded my expectations. There's really nothing I can think of to change that would make the knife better...except maybe a large companion model with a 3.5" blade to go with it.:D

Useful info to have, thanks. I'll see how my thumb holds up.

To anyone who has both the Sage I and II--the scales are interchangeable. This means you can Frankenstein together a Sage with a carbon fiber face scale, but with the Ti framelock. :D

If you've done it mate, be sure to show us. Sounds like an awesome idea

yes, I got mine 2 days ago, my Paramilitary is green with envy.

Some thoughts:
I was skeptical with it being made in Taiwan, but the fit and finish is really top notch!! (though my "S" in "S30V" is a bit wonky) The deep choil is great, and the handle has great ergos! The Sage 2 slips in and out of pocket easily, and disappears deep in there for discreet carry.

After getting the Sage 2, I envisioned my dream Spyderco: A Ti Paramilitary with a frame/compression lock (like the ATR).
