Sage 2 late lock-up

Hey all. I just received my Sage 2 today, brand new, still sealed in the packaging. And when I opened it, I saw that the lockup was at 75%. Is this common with the Sage 2, with its steep blade tang? or is it a defect? there's no play or anything worrying yet, just the late lock-up.

That does sound rather late and uncharacteristic of the Sage 2? Most posters state an earlier lock-up in related threads. I've had two of these (only one currently...a user for about a year) and the lock-bar has only moved incrementally starting at about 35% and now around 40%...as I say, after a year's use. Maybe it's just my OCD, but if I bought one NIB from a dealer, I would exchange it for one w/earlier lock-up.

Honestly this is one reason I'd rather buy used :P You get to see the knife before you buy it. I don't have any good knife shops around here so I can't go and buy in person.

Just to note, my NIB Sage2 (tight, no use) is at ~ 35%.
I buy 95% of my knives from our Exchange, and am happy.

I've heard of sage 2's having lockup that late. Not out of the box but it should be fine. There's a quote somewhere that spyderco will fix it if your lock wears out, which I haven't heard of happening.

I can post a picture in a bit. I actually had an amazon gift card. I would've purchased through the exchange if I could have.

and Sonny, this is the first knife I've bought new in over a year. I really would rather just buy them from the exchange as well. It has the bonus of lower prices, and the fact that you get to see the knife before you get it :P

I don't think it's particularly common - most I have seen are in the %25-%40 range. However, if the lockup travels to the other side or develops play, Spyderco will fix it for the cost of shipping.

And, hey, now it's even more like a Sebenza :P

(Edit: I misinterpreted the tone of the OP, as he wasn't complaining and was just inquiring as to whether it was normal.)

I have about a month to go left until I can no longer exchange it for another Sage 2 on Amazon. Gonna keep it until I'm certain there's a problem.
