sage 2 or techno?

Okay so I want to start off by saying my first experience with Spyderco was not a very good one but would like to give them another shot as I hear such good about them from everyone else. I have narrowed it down to either the Sage 2 or the Techno. What do you guys think would be my best bet?

Oh boy, both are titanium frame locks but that is where the similarities end. Completely different knives so we will need to know what you plan on using it for. The Techno is an overbuilt little brute of a knife, the Sage 2 is larger yet more elegant. Both are great knives.

Techno. Just trust me. It is mind-blowingly well made (and tanky) and just incredible to hold and use.

Sage 2, unless for some reason you just need/want a small pocket tank.

I love my Techno, so I vote for that one for reasons already mentioned. Sage might be easier to deploy though.

What was your first Spyderco experience? There are a lot of Chinese fakes out there if you didn't know already.

My first spyderco was a meerkat handed down to me from my brother but after only a few weeks of EDC and the lock up totally gave up. Im looking for something to EDC, in my state 3 inches is the legal length you can carry on your person. I do like the sage 2 but the over built tank look of the techno is really catching my eye and also better blade steel

Both knives are EDC-friendly, but Techno is too thick for slicing - I always had trouble with fruits. If you are looking for a general pupose EDC, with no specific requirements, I'd say opt for the Sage 2. Both have better blade steel, and I doubt if you'd even notice any difference in normal EDC tasks. Deployment on the Sage 2 is a lot more smoother as well. Sage 2 also paves way to move on to a Sebenza.

It's actually funny you mentioned the Sebenza because this whole time I have had the thought stuck in the back of my head telling me to just go straight for the gold and buy a small Sebenza.

Keeping in mind that you could buy both the Sage 2 and the Techno for the same amount of money.

Also another good option that I have thought of but like I said my first experience with Spyderco was nothing short of terrible so I would like to stick to just one for now and take it from there.

I have a couple of sebenza's so I also appreciate F&F if that is your concern but I don't think you would be upset about the F&F on either of those knives.

I have 3 Spydercos, a ZT 0350ts, and a Benchmade Griptilian. The Sage 1 is by far and away my favorite EDC out of modest collection of folders. I know it isn't the same as the Sage 2 but I can't recommend the Sage series enough.

Hands down, get the Techno. It's a beast of a small knife that simply doesn't feel like a small knife. The stonewashed finish on the TI and blade is right there with the finish on Striders and CRK. I love Spyderco and think that this might be their best knife.

I own a Sebenza and the Techno compares nicely to it. The Sebenza is a better slicer though but the Techno is a manly hunk of sharp steel.

So I've finally made up my mind and the Techno it is! This was not an easy decision but for what I want right now I know I won't regret the Techno, I still plan on getting the Sage in the future but for now I am going with the Techno. Thanks to everyone who took the time to give me some feedback and I will definitely let you know how I like the Techno as soon as it arrives!

Love the techno! Just know that the blade itself is very thick at the top, which actually can make things like cutting an apple in half a little bit difficult. It will actually start to split the apple due to the thickness. Other than that, it's a great knife and you will be very happy with the decision.

I've had both, and liked the Techno better. Both are great, but the Techno is a more unique piece. For the Sage series I liked the feel of the Sage 1 over the 2.

I've also had both, and liked both.
Pick whichever you think looks the best.
I still have the Sage2, traded the Techno (reluctantly) because I got a good deal. Techno was a little harder to open one handed because of the stubby handle, and didn't have as good ergos. They were good for a short knife, just not as good as the Sage 2.

Edit because we need pics of course:

I like Sage 3, but again I like and own many Benchmade AXIS lock. It can one hand open /close ambidextrously. Native 5 may also fit your bill.

Given a choice between Sage and Techno, I like Sage, because it has 50/50 coil so that you can choke hold the blade for detail work.

If you are looking for smallest, yet sure holding Spyderco, there is Dragonfly2. My wife owns it, and that is best ergonomic pocket spear/laser I have ever seen. It has thickness of 2.5mm and very stout blade.
