Sage 2 Titanium wear

Does anyone have a Sage II that's been carried and used hard? I'd like to know what the titanium scales look like with wear and scratches. More specifically, do they wear more like BM Skirmishes or Sebenzas?

It wears more like the Sebenza, I know Reeek posted some great pics of a RIL Sage with some carry marks, but I cant seem to find them. Maybe he’ll come across this thread and show us what his knife looks like now.

IMHO, a brand new Sage 2 is one of the best looking Spydercos as far as knife glamour shots go. It makes fantastic knife porn out of the box but to my surprise, the Sage 2 stays beautiful as it gets used but in a different way. I have to admit that I get a warm feeling come over me when I pick this user Sage 2 up and know I'm going to have it in my pocket all day. Not only because it's a fantastic EDC but also because I have no fear of marring it anymore. It's a good feeling.

Most of the large scars you see on the non clip side scale are due to an episode in my washing machine. If that had never happened this knife would look 50% less used than she does now. Other use scars are on a couple corners where the knife hit the surface when I dropped it. I've dropped this knife on porcelain floor tiles at least 3 times and also out in the garage on the concrete (coated concrete). Each time I dropped it the knife was closed. The blade deployed about twice out of all the drops. Apart from the washing machine scars and the drops, most of the EDC wear are the very fine scratches around the pivot and the minor buffing around the edges of the scales. Also note that the non-clip side scale seems to take the brunt of wear and scarring. I suspect the clip side is more protected by the clip itself as well as the fact that the clip side is more protected while in my pocket. I've disassembled this knife once so far for a thorough cleaning and lubing and as you can see, the blade centering came right back. The lockup has not changed after hundreds if not thousands of openings now. Still early and solid. Operationally, this knife feels as good as the first day. Here are the pictures from this morning at my desk:

Thanks Reeek, those were exactly the kind of photos and comments I wanted to hear. I've got the Sage I and will probably be looking into getting the brother in the near future.

Bladeforums has always gone up and beyond my expectations for photo requests, it's very endearing and truly appreciated

Edit: Oh one thing, how did you deal with the locktite on the screws when you disassembled the knife?

Reeek,

Geat pics!!! Thank you for spending the time to post them. I have been considering buying the Sage 2 but I was really concerned about how the scales would wear. I think that I'll have to give this knife a try.

It came right apart, no problem at all. No stripped screw heads or anything.

I own or have owned as many as 60 various Spydercos and the Sage 2 is in my top 5 general use EDC's without a doubt.

What are the other 4? :D

I go all over the map but if I'm forced to give it up I'd do something like this in no specific order:

* Sage 2 ((I have a NIB spare) The Sage 1 is a close second to this knife but the Sage 2 is still my favorite between the two)

* Gayle Bradley (I've carried this knife quite a bit since I got it (I have a NIB spare)

* Some variation of the Military. I have a few

*A skeletonized Manix 2. I have a CF S90V now, two Blue and two FG sprint runs coming.

* Some variation of the Paramilitary (I have a couple D2's in the stash)

Thanks for your input. I have a Sage 1 and Caly3 CF. Between the two I was content enough to give away my Delica. Still hoping to get a Sage2 when I can.

Wow. I have many, many Spydercos, including all of those you mention below, and my top five list would be the same. I would go with the Military in either S90V or D2, and the Para in D2 for this list.

Love my Sage 2 I think it should be a new staple for those getting into Spyderco. Definitely a good knife to upgrade to after ones first experience with a cheaper spydie like the delica or native.

Interesting :) Agreed on the steels too.

Great pictures Reeek. My Sage 2 hasn't seen the hard use yours has, but judging by your pictures it looks even better with a few battle scars.

What sequence did you use to remove the screws when you disassembled yours? If I remember correctly the pivot screw on the non-clip side is "D" shaped and shouldn't really be turned.

IIRC the method I found that seems to work best is to remove the pivot screw from the clip side and the other two screws from the non-clip side.

Yup :) The Sage 2 ( like most frame locks) disassembles and reassembles in a snap and so easy a caveman can do it . . .

Most of the large scars you see on the non clip side scale are due to an episode in my washing machine.

Any damage to the washing machine? Some thing happened to me a year or so ago and while the knife came through more or less the same the inside of my machine looked like someone took a hammer to the inside of it.

Great pics!

No, but only because I have one of those GE top loading washers that are more like a front loader. There is no agitator in the tub and I remembered about the knife about halfway through the cycle. Good point though because my tub is stainless steel.
