I’ve had a few Spyderco‘s in the past, but sold them and landed mostly on RHK and CRK.

I had a Para 3 LW, which was a nice size, but didn’t have a solid feel. I had a Delica 4 and Dragonfly 2 and they were both too small. The Techno ergos were not a good fit.

I’ve been looking at getting a Para 3 in G10 to pack in my luggage when I travel, but then came across the Sage 2.

How do you like the Sage 2 ergos, and how do they compare with the ergos of the Para 3? Is deployment comparable to the Para 3?

Is there anything I should be aware of with the Sage 2?

I appreciate any input.

I like the Sage 2, but I am already happy with my Sage 1 (liner lock with G10 scales and Maxamet). I think that it's more comfortable in use than the G10 Para3, mostly because there is no hump on the blade and the missing compression lock cutout (I don't like comp-locks anyway). Also, the blade has a better geometry. And subjectively, the Sage looks better.

I have a Para 3 LW, Delica 4, DF2. I think the ergos are closest to the Para 3 because of the length and similar finger choil. I like the Sage 2 blade shape better aesthetically and the feel of the smaller thumb ramp. I like the action way better on the Sage. Deployment is about the same but the feel of the lockup is so much better on the Sage's framelock vs the compression. The LW sounds and feels cheaper (but I'm sure is functionally just as strong). I have a G-10 Para 3 which is better but I still like the Sage the best. The cutout to the lockbar on the Sage is the biggest and one the best of all my framelocks. The blade drops to my thumb then closes pretty smooth. They also did a good job of chamfering all the edges and I like the lockbar cutout on the inside. I've only had my Sage 2 for about a week but I imagine it will carry like the Para 3 LW due to the wire clip. I was almost about to buy the titanium scales for LW (this might be a good option if you like the compression lock better and to get a more solid feel or get a Sage 5). My ideal EDC is the Chaparral if not not for the back lock. If only they would make a baby Sage 2. But for now, the Sage 2 is my favorite titanium folder. My budget does not allow me to compare it to a CRK or RHK yet but that would have been the next step if I didn't find this Sage 2. A couple similar sized favorites are the Urban EDC F5.5 (mine is in micarta) and Giant Mouse ACE Biblio bronze w/ micarta inlay. I have the bronze only as well and the micarta makes all the difference. I'm trying to resist getting the titanium w/ micarta. Sorry, tmi but I hope it might help. Good luck.

I'm all for a Sage!
Coming up through, I had a 1 and a 2.. Then came the Sage 5 and Para 3..
Bought both. Sold the Para 3..
Carried and modified, multiple Sgae 5 spines.
I Love the wire clip, the handle shape, feel in hand, etc.. Of the Sage series..
But I modified the spine, to a Para 3 blade shape. It was just about perfect!
I used it in construction, cutting drywall, geo, etc... Sharpened over a 1/8" of blade off..

Then I bought another and did a Stretch style blade spine. Was Awesome!

Now I have Para 3 in G10 and LW(both in different blade steels and the LW gets carried more).
As well as the Sage 5 LW in M4. (Just haven't modified the blade, yet)
Waiting for the Sage 5 in Maxamet, till I buy another in G10.. (if it ever comes to light)

I prefer the Military and have since gotten rid of my PM2's because of that. Never bothered to try the PM3 because I had the Sage 2 and I prefer framelocks anyway. Then I got a Sage 1 and did this.

I have both the G-10 Para 3 and the Sage 2 in s30v. I think the Sage has vastly superior ergos. I don't get the short, thick, pointy blade of the Para 3: not my cup of tea. The Sage 2 however, is one of my all-time favorites from Spyderco.

Nice...what do you think about it so far?
I like it a lot, but it will take some getting used to due to the size/shape, which would be the case with almost any Spyderco. One of my favorites is the CRK small Sebenza. I'm not trying to compare the 2, but just want to show them side by side for size comparison. They both have the same handle and blade length, but the Sage 2 has a much bigger spine and belly.

The ergos, fit/finish, action, carry are all excellent.

The Sage 2 always felt “off” to me. I could never get the pivot dialed in the way I need, and the lack of a steel insert on lockbar is a bummer. It’s a Sage 1 in maxamet for me. Nice G10, good liner lock, and a steel that will cut for months without getting dull. I would take the Sage 1 over the Para 3, and the PM2 over both.

I did the same thing, I had owned a bunch of Spydercos in the past, and really liked the sage 2 but I was looking for something a little bit bigger! like you I ended up with both the CRK end HINDERER and both fit my hand better, but not my wallet so much! both hold there value vary well $ I would say.
