I tried to disassemble my Sage 3 the other day but the bolt lock has me stumped. I've searched Spyderco.com for the answer and still couldn't find it. Have any of you guys ever taken on apart? Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I haven't done a Spyderco bolt lock but I've done the Benchmade axis, I'm not sure how similar they are. Where are you stumped in the assembly process? pics will help the most.

Whoops I browsed over that part, someone should chime in here soon enough on disassembly. It should be similar to a manix2, I've heard the bolt has to be unscrewed to take it apart completely, Sorry can't be of much help.

I took my handle scales off one time, and then stopped. It is very different, and I did not want to mess with it. Why do you want to take it apart? I did get some rust up in there, but got a q-tip and cleaned it out quite well.

I bought the knife to acid & stone wash. I also did the same thing, took the scales off and got stuck at the lock. Here a link to another knife I did, same thing I want to do to the Sage.

Well, that sucks. The liners are pinned together aren't they? I would be very doubtful if you pulled it apart, it would go back together nicely. I don't know about acid wash, but I think some guys have stonewashed blades and protected the handles with the knife fully intact.

I've already had the liners separated just enough that I could make sure it's possible. Now I'm just stuck at the bolt lock. If I can't get it apart I'm going to sell it and get another Spyderco with S30V to play around with. The blue scales with the acid & stone wash just look so damn good though. Lol

Oh, you got farther than I dared. I do agree that the blue would be sick with acid/stone wash, and I would probably get excited and screw something up in your situation:D There may be some patent drawings of the lock that could help. Blackie Collins invented the lock. I did a quick Google and did not find any drawings, but they may be out there.

I've done Google searches and I've even posted on the Spyderco forum last night. I'm hoping between both forums someone will have a answer. If not I'm gonna call Spyderco and ask a technician.

That sounds like the best plan.
