I was getting horrible results with the color of this knife and my digital camera. Really weird. Just wasn't coming out right.... as you'll see. Fortunately, later I figured out a way to get the color right.

No matter how I tweaked the white balance, this is the shot against white paper:

Here it is with my Sage 2 (color still sucks):

Finally, I decided to shoot it in my hand (hard to do with only one hand holding the DSLR with macro set up). But, NOW the color is right!

And, some close-ups. This is the back side of the handle where the normally open spot is filled in with more blue G10.

How would you compare it to the Sage2? I do not own a Sage but want all three of them. just trying to figure out which one's I should I get first and second.

how is the lock in terms of ease of disengagement? is it solid in terms of blade play?

To me (a relative noob), it is similar in operation to the caged ball lock of the Manix 2. I can do it with my thumb on one side. But, it's easier with both my thumb and index finger gripping from both sides. Maybe some break-in time will make it easier.

Oh... blade play... I can't detect any at all. Feels solid to me.

They are different in a couple of ways. First, of course, is the lock. Frame lock vs. bolt lock. Completely different. How the two handle materials feel in your hand are also very different. Titanium vs. G10. Titanium feel richer in my hand. But, G10 is grippier.

It's hard for me to pick favorites among my 38 Spydies (so far). I like'em all!

I'm really up in the air about this one. I love the design, and as a lefty I like that it is fully ambidextrous. But that blue, I'm not sure that I can deal with it being SO blue.

But it is a really great build so I've heard...and congrats on yours.

Such a good EDC knife. Great ergonomics, great blade geometry, excellent tip for fine work. The clip is awesome, the color is friendly and unique, yet blends in next to jeans. And the lock is outstanding. I love the unique machined thingeys. Can be opened on one side or both, doesn't matter. Zero blade play, perfectly centered blade, flawless crafstmanship.

Thanks for the pics. Just when I think I'm done buying knives for a while I see something else I just "have" go get.
I love me sage 2, so guess I'll have to get a 3 now.

Any opinions on Sage 1 vs Sage 3?
I don't have any carbon fiber handle knife, so i wanted to try the sage1. But now there's sage 3 =(

very nice. any word on the sage 4?:D
Just this comment by Sal over on the Factory Forum yesterday: "The next model is going to be a front-lock-back (The Al Mar, Harvey McBurnette lock is a little different than the mid-lock-back). We still plan to use Al Mar's long bolster version. We'd like to use a walnut scale, but we're still deciding on the scale material due to possible shrinkage."

I find it more difficult to disengage than the Manix 2, although as Racer noted, it can be done using only one of the studs. Think for me it's at least partly a case of the smaller metal studs not being as easy to grip as the plastic sliders on the Manix II. Lockup is rock solid, if you handed it open to someone who was blindfolded, they think it was a fixed blade.

Depends on what you like, but I'll say this, While I realize Sal's philosophy for the Sage series dictates the choice of handle materials for each lock, I wish the Sage III was CF like the Sage I. To me, the Sage I is the prettiest of the trio and, while all three have excellent fit and finish, the Sage I and Sage II show off the maker's talent more dramatically than the Sage III.

Congratulations on your new knife and thanks for the pics. I didn't realize that the G-10 colour is that pastel blue, I was expecting for something closer to the navy blue.
But bubble gum blue or not, the knife is awsome anyway. I especially love the nested liners.

There aren't going to be any shortages of Sages for a good while so get what you want. The Sage 1 is rather inexpensive and just a beautiful knife with the CF and open construction. I'm skipping the 3 for now as it's just too fat for me and the color isn't my cup of tea. Give me a Sage with coyote brown G10 scales and a compression lock!

Yup, i think that the sage 1 is the most beautiful of the 3. Alright sage1, here i come!
